Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Several of us are collaborating on a Rho Ophichus region image and are running tests now before a large imaging run.  I am trying to use APP and one other is using PixInsight (PI).  The third is deciding whether to use APP or PI.  I really like APP and have been using it for everything but cannot even register a set of subs I have taken where PI is doing it.  I need some help on what is wrong here.

There are 2 files attached:  a screenshot of the sub loaded into APP and a screenshot of the sub loaded into PI with an STF Autostretch.  The actual FITS file is available here:

The only way I can see much of anything in the APP image viewer is to set the white point down to ~0.03 and then all the detail is washed out.

Am I doing something wrong?

APP
PI

Hi,

Was curious about your image.  I find that I can see the image by:

a)  Setting the ST slider full left  that the value shows as 0 -  at this point the image display is showing as all white

b)  With the ST slider still selected, giving a single press to the Right Arrow Key - at this point the ST display is still showing 0.

It seems the data is there but for some reason APP's viewer is not giving the data an appropriate stretch.  I think by using the cursor control keys to set the ST value, I am setting a lower value than the least increment that APP currently is setting programatically :  It takes me 5 Right Arrow key depressions to increase ST to a point that displays (rounds up?)  to a value of 0.00001.

If I invoke Register Stars with APPs default settings, it detects 472 stars with c1.65 FWHM.

I can see this manual setting would be a pain if one wanted to page through dozens of images for viewing but I'm not sure it would prevent APP from actually processing / integrating a set of data files.
