Hi,
I did do a search but haven't found a solution to this. As the title says, APP doesn't seem to like NINA flats taken with the NINA Flats Wizard.
This is an example of a few Ha frames with appropriate flats (taken at 33%) in APP:
Same raw data processed with DeepSkyStacker:
Flat file taken with NINA wizard:
Flat file taken with AsiAirPro -- I integrated many sessions with fits files taken with AsiAir Pro and all was fine
So it does look like APP treats NINA flats differently than those from AsiAir Pro?
I put these four .fits files here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/iwvfii214489a3e/AAAbcXQbSSOEsk3Xs4k2bXn1a?dl=0
I also tried a quick stack with ASTAP and it was fine, same as DSS. If needed, I can provide more files?
Thank you! 🙂
Jure
EDIT: added SOLVED to subject. Thank you all that responded! 🙂
I use NINA too for my imaging nights. I take flats with Flats Wizard (40% ADU histogram). RGB and Narrowband flats (with dualband L-Extreme filter) and it is rare that I have any problems with them. I use a cheap EL Panel (from the Chinese site). They are usually about two seconds.
What I always do to confirm that they are working is live stacking with the downloaded images (EZ live Stack, PixinsightTools plugin for NINA...) and you can immediately see if they are working well or not. I take the flats before doing the lights.

Thanks for replying, Anofeles! I am using Gerd Neumann's flat panel and with AsiAir I never had a single issue. I am taking flats at 33% ADU, so that also shouldn't be a problem. I do not have Pixinsight, unfortunately, APP was so reliable up until now.
I usually take flats at the end of my imaging sessions, but yesterday I took them in the middle, because some clouds appeared out of nowhere. Everything was set up properly. And besides, AsiAir and NINA flats from my examples are virtually identical. Strange...
I use NINA and APP exclusively, and never had issues.
However, when calibrating, do you have the warning turned off, or ignore the warning?
For accurate calibration in APP you need Dark Flats or a Bias too. Are you using either of those?
I use NINA FlatWizard and aim for 32K ADU, and within the 10% tolerance default.
I would try again with DarkFlats, and with Bias, and compare. Just go through calibration then select the drop down from the image preview to show the calibrated vs raw to see if there's a difference in accurate calibration.
Hello: I have been using NINA and APP for a long time and I have not had problems with the Flats, you also have to use the DarkFlats and BadPixel for the set to work correctly.
My camera is an OMEGON veTEC571C. Which I am very happy with by the way. Health.
The settings that I have in NINA for the generation of the Flats are the following:
Hi,
luckily I did take DarkFlats for my Ha sequence on the previous night. Didn't use them, because I never did before. And settings in NINA are as shown except that I set for 33% ADU, but that should not be a problem.
And that did it, the final image is as it should be! 🙂
Curious, why are DarkFlats needed? I never ever took them with the AsiAir Pro. Did a quick integration today with old data and all was well.
Anyway, many thanks AstroCookbook Kev and Carlesa25! Much appreciated! 👍
