2026-10-09 APP 2.0.0-beta48 has been released !
This is mainly a bug fix release for the reported bugs in beta47. In addition it has a significant User Interface performance improvement noticable when you need to process 1000s of images in APP.
2026-10-03 APP 2.0.0-beta47 has been released !
This is a very big release... many code optimizations/rewrites, many parts of APP are much faster and more precise, especially star analysis and registration are much faster ! Big mosaics will go much faster 🙂
And we introduce a new preview filter, which includes the new Adaptive Deep Sky Stretch and a General Levels Stretch, this has been long over due. The old preview filter (the panel on the right side to stretch and preview your data) has not been updated for a couple of years and it is a critical part of any APP session.
Adaptive Deep Sky Stretch or ADSS is a much more intuitive stretch algorithm. It is also color preserving (which is a great new addition in itself ! ) which means that the highlights are no longer bleached, color is maintained from the linear data while stretching. You can simply stretch your data using the sky background level and signal width sliders which work much easier and more intuitive. You no longer need to fiddle with the old complicated sliders with zoom buttons. All the zoom buttons for the sliders are made redundant. And you can enter slider values in the slider value fields yourself. I will make a youtube video in the coming days to explain and fully introduce ADSS. Once the video is ready, it will be highlighted on the forum.
RGB Combine upgrade !. The RGB Combine Tool has been rewritten mostly. The tool is faster and easier to use and most importantly, the Luminance slider to inject a luminance channel or channels into the RGB composite is now working correctly. It no longer bleaches the RGB colors. Combined with the new ADSS preview, you will get much better and easier great composites with great color! I will also explain this in a new youtube video.
First, my mono files are stored on a NAS. There no select subfolder option in this app and theres no select function to the NAS from a Mac. Second, I expect this software to sort by mono filter. If I wanted cumbersome I would continue to do stacking in pixinsight
Don (@donmiller)
No offence intended, but I think there is a degree of misunderstanding here.
There no select subfolder option in this app
Well that's not so. I organise my data by subfolders and APP has no difficulty in navigating to and loading from subfolders. In fact I understand it uses standard OS function calls to do this - just like most applications.
theres no select function to the NAS from a Mac
I'm not sure what to make of this, but I strongly recommend that files are not loaded from a NAS drive - its much too slow. Copy data to local storage first, preferably a fast ssd. The speed increase will be huge.
I expect this software to sort by mono filter
It does that already. Although I usually find it more convenient to organise filter images using subfolders, I have experimented with dumping the data into a single folder and loading it in one go. As long as your acquisition software correctly assigns the fits header labels there's no problem. If your acquisition software can't do that then just use subfolders.

Hi Don @donmiller and John @connor231,
I understand that you are using APP on a Mac computer. Which APP version are you running? The lastest version 2.0.0-beta46 uses the actual macOS native file/directory chooser, so you can browse like normal, you can definitely browse into subfolders to load data. The only thing that app does not do is let you select a subfolder and then expect APP to load all data in that folder including subfolders. That is something that is on our ToDo list after the 2.0.0 release.
You can definitely browse a NAS with the native file chooser that APP uses, I do it frequently. If you can browse to the NAS directory with your data using macOS Finder, then you should be able to browse in the same way to that location from the file chooser in APP.
In 1) LOAD you need to make sure that the Multi-Channel/Filter processing option is enabled. Then it will sort per filter assigned, both for monochrome or multi-channel data like RGB or Multi-NarrowBand filter data.
Please let me know if this helps or if you need more assistance.
Thanks John 😉 for your assistance,
Mabula
