Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi! About to pull the trigger on a new Velocity Microsystems workstation PC primarily for Astro image processing and regular photo processing. $7500 budget. Looking for comments on the primary specs for using with APP and other AP software like PI

Threadripper 3 24-core processor

128 GB main memory

11TB Enmotus hybrid drive for boot and main image storage. This is 1 TB high speed SSD and 10 TB HDD
2 1-TB drives in RAID0 for working directory/swap files.

NVIDIA 8GB Ti 3060 video card

Any comments/suggestions welcome!

Wayne

@vincent-mod Thanks! For me that’s actually a good idea.

For past 4 years I’ve been using a Dell laptop with quad core Xeon, 2 fast SSD drives, and 64 GB memory. It was fine until getting into CMOS camera (QHY268C) with large files and hundreds of them to process. It appears that the best way to speed things up is as many cores and as much memory as affordable gets the biggest improvements? As well as fast storage. Not sure if the GPU makes much difference though.

I'd love to have an espresso machine again, will get there soon.

Yes, if you want to do super complex data analysis, a lot of memory and cores is always beneficial. The GPU isn't as much yet, not until we support GPU processing, but you'll be well prepared for that then.

@vincent-mod good! Even though it’s easy to load data into APP and run it automatically, I was waiting 4 or more hours for completion of a typical session. And getting 6 panels done for a mosaic was a weekend project! 😂

Ah yes, well apart from the machine, we are updating APP to be more efficient and faster all the time. When the GPU support arrives it will crunch even faster through the new bigger data.
