I had to install Window 10 and APP again...It's the first time I used APP after the fresh download.

I keep getting Insufficient RAM errors. I slid the knob over then rebooted the PC. Still didn't change....

Also says I'm only using 2 RAM out of 16....

What is the procedure for increasing it?

Thanks

Rod

You would need to click on the cfg button (on the top left side) and select the amount of memory from a top-down list. As seen here;

memory

Then you restart and APP uses that memory.

Ah, I see. I never knew there was a drop down menu. All I saw was that slider, and when I slid it over nothing happened...

What is a good number to put this one. I realize each computer is unique...Just a ballpark number. Mine goes up to 15...I'ts been on 2 now ever since using APP...

What does the slider do? I'm showing using 3 Threads whatever that is, it's at default about 3/4 of the way to the right.

I'll try it, thanks!

So, it indeed depends on your system. I have 32GB of memory and set it at 30. But that does mean that for a huge dataset, I might have trouble using my computer for something else. For light work that then should be ok.

The number of threads is for your processor. So if you have a 4-core processor, you can set it to 3 threads. Or if thet4-core processor supports multiple threads, it then becomes 7-8. This means APP can split up the work to the amount of threads your processor can handle and this also speeds up processing. I always leave 1 thread for my system so my computer doesn't grind to a halt. 🙂

This Lenovo Think Pad I use is dedicated just for my Astrophotography...I use a MacBook for everything else.

I'm looking at the task manager here seeing what's eating what, the APP consumes about 60-70%. I may have to start thinking about a stronger PC...Looking into that now..I have 16GB of RAM, and this PC in not upgradable to 32GB...I have it set for 13...I may max it out then do another set of images just to see what it does. 13 did not help much...

Thanks for the help Vince...! Have a great Sunday

I have a thinkpad as well. 🙂 P53 as I needed a laptop that I could expand or even fix when needed. Always used Macbooks as well, but the recent ones even have fixed memory, so that wasn't to my taste anymore. Anyway, last years laptops can be fine and if you're going to look for a new one, I'd advice something with an AMD Ryzen CPU, which can have a lot of cores. SSD ofcourse, so that will speed up processing as well a bit and plenty of memory.

You're very welcome Rod, always a pleasure to assist you. 😉

Who sells these, AMD Ryzen CPU computers? Are they pretty much throughout the market? Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc?

They are yes, just have a look at your local IT supplier and check if the laptop has an AMD ryzen chip. More cores the better. 🙂 Of course, a desktop will be even better as they are usually cheaper and have better thermals.
