Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Hi all,
Thank you all very much for sharing your concern.
Like Vincent indicated, we are working on this for the 2.0 stable release, both loading/saving your settings and whole projects. 2.0.0 is a new release cycle and would have been the 1.084 version in the old release cycle. Due to big development issues on especially macOSÂ (our old development platform was no longer supported/regarded safe by Apple and the new Apple Silicon hardware) we had to prioritize to move APP to a new development platform hence a long beta period to get to 2.0. All the major migration isssues have been solved and tackled now and 2.0 stable is close for sure.
As you know we have been saving more and more settings in APP per restart and we are now ready to do this for all tabs 0)-6). In addition, 2 beta's ago, I re-organised APP's output of all the metadata and analytical data (added 3 new columns by splitting 3 columns and the column order can now be changed easily and is remembered) in preparation for saving and loading all of this information. This all works well now and I agree that it should not be very difficult now to implement this highly requested feature on which I will work in the coming period for sure.
Please let us know if you have more or other concerns as well.

From a year and a day ago, "I agree that it should not be very difficult now to implement this highly requested feature on which I will work in the coming period for sure."
From the notes, not on the list for beta 30. Maybe sometime this year??
We soon will have second anniversary of APP 2.0.0 beta... Dont get me wrong, APP is my favourite program for astrophotography. But saving projects would be a wonderful feature for many people here. It would be so nice to have something like a .prj file which you can load and start over an older project without searching for flats, biases, used lights... Just include new lights or something...
Yes, development is incredibly slow!😕

This would be incredibly helpful. Most people are using the same master files on different targets, buthaving to reload them each time is quite annoying if you're dealing with multiple filters. Having a project file template that just loads your masters would be mega helpful with a template chooser on APP boot.Â
That said, just generally being able to save really needs to be an absolute top priority at this point. I've been following the releases and progress of the ability to save, as I along with a few others mentioned this pre COVID. I understand it's an overhaul on each thing and appreciate MacOS set things back (I'm a Apple Silicon user so really appreciate the updates on that side of things) I also appreciate the tab settings saving were a big part of it, but it's been literal years for what I'd consider a basic function of any program.
Where I'm located, brief power outages are somewhat frequent (as I'm somewhere dark) and not being able to save is *very very* frustrating as I often have multiple instances of APP open with multiple ongoing projects and I lose all progress. This comes back to my first point and the quote, having to reload everything is VERY tedious.Â

I don't know the reasons, but in general it is high time Mabula starts, after 3 months of silence on this forum, to chime in specially now that Vincent is not/hardly on board.
The fact that people getting worried about further developments to come, if any, which includes me, is bad advertising and potentially ruining the reputation of APP.
Mabula, show up please and start giving clear perspective and needed advise to us users who are providing your income.
I've been tracking this change discussion since I first purchased APP in late 2019. This feature/enhancement has been the most sought after change that I've looked forward to seeing released for several reasons, many of which have been expressed for some time. Â
As a now mature [lol] SW Engineer/Architect, I've implemented this feature in several development projects over the years, so I understand the amount of planning and implementation that such a change requires. And not the least of which is implementing across multiple platforms. I look forward to beta testing this one in the near future. Â
Just wonder if saving projects is getting any closer to implementation?
Hi Szumi @szumi,
It is the final thing to complete for the 2.0 stable release, I am working on it. The save/load settings part is ready and stable, I am now adding the project data. Once done, I will release it. Sorry to keep you waiting for so long.
