June 24 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta46 has been released !

Improved internal memory configuration (lower ! memory usage), fixed beta45 startup issue, fixed Set Save Directory & 2-panel mosaics.

May 27 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta45 has been released !

Fully Multi-Threaded LNC, many improvements for the registration engine, platform upgrade, and further tuning of internal memory consumption and memory release back to OS.

Apr 14 2026: Google Pay, Apple Pay & WeChat Pay added as payment options

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me with some strange stacking artefacts I am getting on a 2 panel mosaic of the Soul Nebula which I'm trying to do. What I am getting is small clusters of red, blue or green pixels spread over the entire mosaic (not just the overlap) and I have no idea what could be causing it. I'm about to try stacking each panel separately to see if I still get them but any advice / suggestions in the meantime would be most helpful. Image showing some of the artefacts attached. Camera is an astro modified EOS 600d and scope is a 130PDS, guided and on an NEQ6 Pro. I'm using MBB @10% 1st degree LNC with 3 iterations. Mosaic mode set and 2000+ stars for analysis.

Thanks
Ed

Dear Ed @edarter,

Thank you very much for your question.

The artefacts are in fact clusters of hot pixels. 2 ways to avoid them:

1) first make mosaic panels with normal registration mode, then these panels will have removed these hot pixel clusters because outlier rejection is enabled in automatic integration mode ( 6) Integrate, integrate setting) for normal registration. Then register these mosaic panels with mosaic registration and integrate them to your final mosaic. It is explained in our mosaic tutorial here: https://www.astropixelprocessor.com/mosaic-tutorial-milky-way-to-rho-ophiuchi-by-mabula/

2) Or, do not make mosaic panels, thus load all individual subs and register them as a mosaic. Then in 6) Integrate, you need to disable the automatic integration setting, set it to average and then configure outlier rejection yourself to have these clusters of hot pixels removed properly.

APP assumes in mosaic registration that you provide mosaic panels that are already clear of these artefacts. Reason is that if you enable outlier rejection on a mosaic, your will get less good results, the outlier rejection will harm your data and thus for a mosaic it is much better to first make mosaic panels and then register them as a mosaic, integrating them without outlier rejection 😉 Also, workflow 1) is much faster and much more robust. If you calculate a mosaic from individual subs, the complicated mosaic calculation might need to solve the mosaic for 100s of frames instead of 10 for instance.

Thanks Mabula, I will give this a go. I was half way towards this solution to be honest as I've since tried stacking the panels individually and there are no signs of the coloured pixels. I suspect I had sub-optimal settings though when I then went to put the panels together in mozaic mode, so I will look at the tutorial and have another go at that!

Thanks
Ed
