SLOW LOADING IMAGES...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Versión 2.0.Beta 20.
Windows 10-64bit.

User for years.
The loading and reloading of the images in process is slow, with each update the loading and display of the image in process seems slower to me. It's also not very helpful that at each step the image is reloaded over and over again.

Hi @carlesa25,

I am sorry to hear your reaction. In our experience, the latest APP versions are actually clearly faster (on recent hardware) than older APP version so I can only assume that it has something to do with your computer hardware somehow. You say that it seems slower, did you actually benchmark/time it and compare it to older APP versions? If so, can you share the results, that will be helpfull.

I am not sure what you mean by : "It's also not very helpful that at each step the image is reloaded over and over again."  Can you explain in more detail what you mean?

Dear Mabula,

Sorry to pitch into this thread but I also did install yesterday the beta20.

When I try to apply for example a saturation the beta20 is clearly very slow. I my case it takes about 30 seconds to "recalculate" and show the new adjustments.

Is this related to the new beta? The beta19 it only take 5 till 10 seconds to recalculate the image.

Kind regards Jan-Willem

Hello: Thank you for your prompt response, I cannot offer you real times since I have not made an effective comparison between versions, it is an appreciation that it takes longer to load and display the image, I have been using this software for a few years now and despite not Being able to quantify it shows a difference with other versions.

When you are using different tools when going from one to another, it makes a copy of the image, I suppose for security and reloads the last image again and it seems to me an unnecessary step, for example in StarReducer, you have the image on the screen, it asks for confirmation and reloads the image .. it is necessary? Thank you

Hi Jan-Willem @jan-willem,

Okay, thank you very much for reporting this. It could be caused by the beta, we adjusted many things relating to internal memory management when compared to beta19. This change could have the effect that the warm-up of the application is indeed a bit slower. Can you check the following for me: you indicate that the saturation takes about 30s, is this still the case when applied multiple times, so load the image 3-4x with saturation applied. Is it still very slow then? Or does it speed it up clearly?

Hi @carlesa25,

Okay, I guess you experience the same as Jan-Willem more or less. It can be caused by our changes with the development platform so I will investigate and test more.

I asked Jan-Willem to retry loading the image several times, it should definitely be much faster after loading 2-3 times. Is this the case for you as well, or does it stay slow in general? If it does, something is not okay.

Okay, I understand what you mean now, thanks. Yes, I will have a look at that behaviour in the tools. The image is not entirely reloaded, but a copy is made for the tool and then it enters again the preview filter, that is what is happening.

Hi Mabula,

Did make a test as requested.

The time's i noted are taken with a stopwatch on my phone, not most accurate but it will give a reasonable insight into the timing.

1 file, stack from a osc, size approximately 208mb.
load a file as: Other/proccesed
Start only check the saturation box, image reloaded into :9,7 sec
first saturation boost: SAT from 15 to 20, image reload :8,8 sec
second saturation boost: SAT from 20 to 25, image reload :8,7 sec
Third saturation boost: SAT from 25 tot 30, image reload :8,9 sec
Fourth saturation boost: SAT from 30 to 35, image reload :8,8 sec

Also did try it with the treshold, various settings all around the 8,7 till 8,9 seconds

Next i did install the beta 19 as a comparison
Did do the same test as above, it doesn't matter what setting i use SAT or Threshold all the changes will take around the 5,9 / 6 seconds.

I can not understand why yesterday after a fresh install it would take a realy long time to load, today it will take only 3 seconds more time than with beta 19, that isn't to bad, but it is still 50% increase of time.

I f you want an another test i'm willing to help!

Kind regards, Jan-Willem

Hi Jan-Willem @jan-willem,

Thank you very much for the testing ! Okay, well 9 seconds instead of 6 seconds compared to beta19 is still way to much I feel.

I will do additional tests myself and will try to improve it for sure, I will share a newer version with you that you can test in the coming days 😉 I'll keep you updated.

Hi Mabula,

No thanks needed, glad I can "help".

Hope you can find a way to speed up even more, as always if you want I can test a new beta.

Kind regards Jan-Willem

Hello: It seems that the latest update of Windows 10, KB5028166, is causing problems with lower performance and slowness in some processes. At the moment it seems that there are no solutions or improvements in this regard, possibly the slowness problem detected in APP is related to this Microsoft update.

@jan-willem & @carlesa25

Can you both try this new version:

https://appreleaseserver.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/2.0.0-beta21-test/AstroPixelProcessor-2.0.0-beta21-test-Windows-64-bit.zip

It should fix a reported stability issue and might also fix the poor performance that you encountered.

Hi @carlesa25,

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. Indeed, that update is creating many issues ! I did not yet update my windows machines with this. Can you roll back the update and test APP again?

Hi Mabula,

Thanx for this beta, i did a quick test and can confirm that the speed into this beta (beta 21-test) is like in beta 19.

Did try several stretch / Sat / Sat TH. settings and all wil take around the 5,7 / 5,8 seconds to recalculate and show the image!!

So the speed is now the same as into beta 19.

Kind regards,

Jan-Willem

Hi Jan-Willem @jan-willem,

That is very good news, thank you for testing this !

We also got a first confirmation that the stability issue of beta20 is solved. I will release this fixed version today or tomorrow !
