Simplest stacking m...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi,

I still use StarTools and that program requires 1:1 photon counts by default. Basically vit needs the least about of stuff done to the image. What can I do when stacking to ensure it is simply calibrated, registered and stacked, with no bells and whistles?

I plan to use both programs of course, and want to know what settings to uncheck or not use during stacking to obtain this

Thanks!

Adam

Hi Mabula, still waiting for a reply. Any way you can advise what settings to use to not add any bells and whistles to the image?

Looking for a .fits stacked image that is as linear as possible to attempt to use in StarTools which needs data as raw as possible.

Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam @singding,

Apologies for the late reply.

All integrations coming out APP are linear if you feed linear (raw) data into it. Any bells and whistles on integration would be Local Normalization Correction and Multi-Band Blending I think, but they merely remove seams and bad data normalization. The data does stay linear however.

Looking for a .fits stacked image that is as linear as possible to attempt to use in StarTools which needs data as raw as possible.

I am not sure what you mean by this. Linear is linear. It becomes unlinear if you apply a non-linear stretch to the data, which APP doesn't do on the integration data, so the integration result is as linear as it can be, really 😉

What does startools complain about if any? Maybe that will shed some light on your concern? (I don't use startools myself currently, but have done so in the past, so I know a few things about it).

Kind regards,

Mabula
