Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and itĀ will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
@dheyergmail-com EDIT BY MABULA: this question was moved to it's own topic by me.
Simple mosaic will not go together and I am about to give up. Why is it so difficult for any astrophotography software develops to make a good mosaic building engine. The follow error has happened AGAIN. And the only way to get APP or any other software on my computer to work correctly again is to reboot the computer.
Encountered error in module:
MultipleViewFullCameraCalibrationSimpleDistortionCorrectionNotSameCameraIncomplete
Error message:
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: Index -6 out of bounds for length 111
Cause:
Index -6 out of bounds for length 111
dv.a(Unknown Source)
dv.doInBackground(Unknown Source)
java.desktop/javax.swing.SwingWorker$1.call(Unknown Source)
java.base/java.util.concurrent.FutureTask.run(Unknown Source)
I can build multi gigapixel 360 panoramas that has more then 500 bracketed raw images from my Canon 90D with software called PTGui with no issues. And because I can not get APP to work I am now going to load my mosaic panels into PTGui and manually align stars.
The most frustrating issue with APP is it will be working fine and everything is going smoothly and then I have to reboot!

Hi @dheyergmail-com,
The error would occur if APP has trouble registering 1 or more frames in the mosaic.
Did you follow the recommended settings for a mosaicĀ https://www.astropixelprocessor.com/mosaic-tutorial-milky-way-to-rho-ophiuchi-by-mabula/ ? Did you Increase star detection count to 2000-3000 in 3) analyse stars?
"The most frustrating issue with APP is it will be working fine and everything is going smoothly and then I have to reboot!"
That is very weird behaviour... On what operating system are you? Not by any chance on one of the latest macOS releases? It seems there is a problem in that release having to do with application shutdown affecting more applications. To be clear, i have never needed to reboot my computer to shutdown or restart Astro Pixel Processor so something weird is definitely going on on your machine.

Ā
I am on Windows 11 Professional. Something about the Java Runtime environment will not fully release memory or shut down. Once this Java runtime issue start non of the programs I might run with the Java runtime will work correctly. I even try manually ending processes with task manager but this doesn't help. I would happily run APP in a debug or verbose mode to possibly catch the issue but I only know Python, R, and some C++. Tried learning Java but would rather program with punch cards in Assembly on an old IBM mainframe. 🤣Ā
Hi Daniel @dheyergmail-com,
Okay, yes we have a similar problem reported in this topic: https://www.astropixelprocessor.com/community/rfcs-request-for-changes/possible-memory-leak-in-rgb-compose/
I will work on this right now to make sure this works much better in the next release.
How about the mosaic registration, any luck with my instructions ?
