Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Hello,Â
I currently use a Dell optioned 9020m with 16 gb ram and intel i7 4th gen processor (2.2ghz) with 8 virtual threads. For $1200, I can upgrade to a 16 gb ram Apple M1 laptop. Hopefully there are some people using the Apple M1 and can testify to pros and cons of the computer and running APP. Thank you.Â
Hi Nicholas,
Is it worth to upgrade, that is a good question. They obviously are very different machines, you'd have to get used to working with MacOS for instance. The M1 is surprisingly fast in general and in that sense would be a nice upgrade to your current system. APP does work on the M1 and reports I've heard are that it's running well. However, it's not yet native to the M1, which means it can run faster and better when we do release the native version (this will take a bit of time still as we're waiting on the M1 release of the Java JDK we're using)
Downsides of the M1 I think are; you can't upgrade the memory, so the 16GB will remain the max and you require dongles for other ports you might need besides the few usb-c ports available. Other than that it's very nice, not for me at the moment, but not bad at all. Personally I'd wait for the update to the M1 line, which might be at the end of this year.

Hi,
I had trouble loading dng files using app1.083-beta2 on a apple mac mini M1, I don't know if 1.082 has the same issue, or even if it has anything to do with app. I understand this is going to be solved and had to do with the java kernel? Not sure. But it failed for me.
@ah_astro That's likely, depending on the issue, another problem. Probably unrelated to the M1 itself.
@vincent-mod I don't know what exactly causes the error. I was told it had to do with the Libraw library and Apple not trusting it's old development system on it's M1 computers. Mabula told me app needed adaption regarding this. I have no information if this has been patched.
Ah, ok, so maybe something specific to the dng format then and libraw. Might be something, but I didn't hear more about that, probably because most use fits to work with.
Ah ok, that might make sense indeed. Good you pointed that out! Fits is something APP does internally so that would explain why that works.
