Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi Mabula, was reading one of your FAQs where you said a true mosaic is where some of the frames have no overlap. So my 2-panel mosaic with 15% overlap really should be registered in normal mode correct?  Also what about a 2x2 mosaic where all panels overlap but the opposite corners would have a only a 2.25% overlap?

Thanks, and love the program!

Not sure what he meant by that, when I create a mosaic I set my capture program to use about 10-15% overlap. This is also recommended as far as I know by Mabula. In principle any overlap should work, but lower % might cause some problems in some cases.

Thanks Vincent, it was Mabula in this post

https://www.astropixelprocessor.com/community/faq/what-is-a-mosaic-and-when-do-i-need-to-use-the-mosaic-registration-mode-or-why-does-registration-take-forever/#post-2906

He makes the point that mosaic registration mode need only be used when there are frames involved with NO overlap. So say a 3x3 mosaic, there would be frames that have no overlap. In a 2x2 that's not true, but as you point out, there is only very little overlap in a couple cases. I just wanted to make sure I was understanding what he said

Thanks again for your help. Rare clear skies here in Seattle the next few nights, going to revisit my Heart mosaic and change to a 4x4 I think. Sure wish we could figure out those stretch marks though!

Ah I see. Well he says "technically" as in to describe exactly what a mosaic would mean. This he does as the word is used in a less correct way by some other programs, other programs call something a mosaic even if all frames overlap in a way and that's not what should be called a mosaic. So a true mosaic has frames in it that have no overlap whatsoever with some other ones, like in a 5x5 mosaic, the most right frame has 0% overlap with the most left, that's a true mosaic. In practice, for APP to be able to actually stitch it in a very complicated manner back together, you do need overlap between the various frames in the grid ofcourse. And in the last post there you can see him mentioning 10-15%.

Yes, the stretch marks is something Mabula (@mabula-admin) should answer. He's very busy at the moment, so I hope he comes back to you soon.
