Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Hi !
If i have for example Milkyway and little foreground on the bottom, can APP also stack those photos or just photos where is no foreground ?
I'm using Sequator application for this job, where i can "freeze the ground" and select just sky, but APP does a lot more nice job for sky.
There are 2 photos, first is just stack of 24single photos shoot with Sequator. Second, milkyway is stacked with App and foreground is added separatly.

Not this nice no, we are however thinking about making this possible.

No problem ! Yea, it would be very nice. As you can see in second photo, Milkyway details are much better, after stacking in APP, foreground was added after.Â
First photo is stacked with Sequator and then edited.
So we have 50% of it already! 🙂 Nice result indeed.

Thanks, yea, true 🙂

Back in September of 2020, a "freeze foreground" capability was about 50% done per this thread. Has it been fully implemented? I'd be a willing beta-tester if not. Â
Kind Regards from San Diego!
No, that's not what I meant, I meant the stacking of the deepsky object. We have the feature to get a nice foreground on the development-list, but this has not a big priority at this moment.
@vincent-mod
Thank you for the update. I know there are a great many wide-field astrophotographers that would welcome something other than Sequator, or having to do some sort of composite blending in Photoshop.
Â
I know this is an old topic - is APP capable to handle images with foreground now?Â
Â
I'm getting error for images containing slightest of foreground.Â
Hi Bikram,
I will try to add an option in 3) analyse stars to exclude the landscape area from being analysed ;-), i have added it to my issue list.
Mabula
Hi! Any news on this? This feature would make me buy APP.
Is there any news about the new update?
