Hi,
Brand new APP user here, and I have a question with regards stacking.
I have many images stacked with DSS using the lights, darks, flats and bias frames, but as I now find I have a few stacks of targets with different image scales and imaging sensors, hence me now trying out APP to attempt to "stack the stacks" for want for a better term (DSS cannot currently deal with dissimilar image scales).
RegiStar is capable of this, but is not competitively priced for a what is essentially one trick pony software.
I was wandering was there a way to combine say 2 DSS FITS/TIFF stacks of image scale sucessfully without having to go through registering every light and calibration frame again all over again? One of the stacks contains Canon CR2's, the other Olympus ORF files, which to my knowledge are unsupported by APP.
I'd also prefer not to convert all my ORFs to TIFFs as I have literally hundreds (if not thousands) of them to get through.
Thanks!
Inf
Different scales and such (if not dramatically different) can be stacked with APP, images from different set-ups is one of its strengths due to its advanced calibration procedures. And yes this can be done on integrated results (ofcourse the strenght of superior calibration etc will then not be used).
The latest APP supports DNG files, are you able to convert the ORF images to that? Olympus support will follow as stated on the right-hand part of the forum;
Direct Support for other brands like Pentax, Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic, will come soon now. Please use DNG Converter if your camera brand is not yet supported to process your raw frames in APP.
Hello,
I've eventually managed to get a resultant APP stack, but it took the best part of a day for the software to load, calibrate, analyse stars, register, normalise and integrate. (DSS seems many times faster on my 12 threaded SSD drive PC). Do I have it configured wrong? I'm stacking 252 lights, with corresponding calibration frames, grouped into 6 sessions.
I did end up converting all my ORFs to DNGs, but there seem to be issues with the final stacked FITS file (I'm not referring to the green area).
The central stack, although aligned well, has stacking artifacts which have not blended into the larger stacked background around it. I had enabled MBB and tried values from 5-50% but this appears to have no effect of blending in the borders.
As you can see, larger stars appear to have strange central artifacts, and I don't know what is the cause of this, or how to ameliorate it.
As an experiment, I took the two separate DSS stacked Canon and Olympus FITS files, manually layered, aligned, resized and stacked them in GIMP (feather erasing the edge of the smaller FOV Canon stack), flattened it and proceeded to process it as normal without hitch.
I'm sure there is something I'm not grasping, but any pointers would be great.
Many Thanks,
Inf
Mmm, could you maybe upload some of the subs to our server? I can do a processing of it and see if I can get it to work a bit faster and then report back. Our server is; this one and username and password is: appuser
Please create a directory with your name and "DSS" added to it and upload them into there. Thanks a lot!
ps. did you use LNC as well?
