Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
I have a new problem. Many of the processes are very slow now. No problem with star analysis, registration, normalization, etc., though. One example: when I'm finished with an image, I save it in FITS, TIFF, and JPEG formats. I hit save, and then it takes something like 2 minutes before the window opens for me to select file type. Another example: I adjust contrast and/or sharpness, and it takes minutes to complete the adjustment to the image. Another example: after calibrating star colors, I go to open the new image and it takes minutes just to open it. I recently increased the memory available for APP to 12gb in an attempt to improve this, but it did not help. I am using a nearly brand new Macbook pro with 2ghz quad core and 16gb ram. Any suggestions?
Mm, and did anything change in respect to the type of data that you have versus your previous experience? What APP version are you using?
@vincent-mod I'm using 1.083-beta 1. Nothing is different in the type of data from previous experience. I reinstalled APP and processed a couple more images and it behaved the same. The star analysis, registration, etc. seems normal. The problem is with the image window. For example, if I make an adjustment to the contrast, it takes about a minute to show the adjusted image. When I am completely finished and hit save, it takes 50 seconds for the window to pop up asking me what format to use. It's puzzling.
@vincent-modWorking on another image. I cropped it and hit crop ok. Then when I went to open the new cropped image, it took 1 minute 20 seconds to open it in the image viewer. This is really bad. I'm baffled.
Yes that is too slow indeed, so are you maybe processing it using an external disk by any chance?
