Problem with Flats ...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi Mabula, Wouter

Lately I have been imaging and processing many sessions, each of them with Flats and Darkflats taken with a flatpanel, every session.

It was always a bit annoying that aparently the Darks/Flats did not correct well with APP so I did a trial today to see if there is any difference ( please check image ).

The trial was a quick one: 10 light with 15 flats/darkflats and a masterdark ( this is something I have my doubts about)

1) Everything loaded into APP and processed, stack loaded into Pixinsight and Automatic Background

Extracted, then simply a screentransfer applied to see something.

2) Everything loaded into PixInsight's WBPP script, Automatic Background Extracted and screentransfer applied.

It seems as if APP leaves some ampglow and at the bottom of the image some "band"

I have observed this over time with different versions of APP but did not keep track of them.

Can this be due to the masterdark?

Thanks for any insight on this!

Mert

Oh well, again user error!

I created new darks for this session and created a new masterdark with that.

Then loaded into APP as before and now it works great, so that was my fault!!

I will redo my complete dark library again!

Sorry to have bothered you al with my question, my dumb!

Regards,

Lammertus

Just to show the difference:

Left is the APP stacked image with the new masterdark

Right is the APP stacked image with the old masterdark
