Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Mabula says: The most efficient and most robust way to register any data set as a mosaic is to first integrate the individual mosaic panels.
My questions: 1. What are panels? 2. How to make panels?
@ary-slingerland In a 2x2 mosaic, there are 4 panels. You make panels by taking subs for each part (i.e. each panel) of the mosaic. Then, according to Mabula's advice, stack the subs of each panel separately and then combine the 4 panels into a mosaic.
It is of course possible to create mosaics of different shapes, for instance 2x1 or 1x2. It depends on the field you want to image and the imaging gear you have.

Ok, thanks a lot, so in the above directory x1-y1 is a panel and so is x 2-y1, x3-y1 and x3-y2 I received the images as Premium images from iTelescope. But not all directories are as clear as this one ....
Making panels now - Registration mode mosaic goes very slow..... iMac M1, CPU8 usin 07 threads - is this normal?
@ary-slingerland It depends on how you do it. If you first integrate each panel separately, as Mabula advices, then the registration of the panels when creating the mosaic as the second step is fast. If you load all subs for all panels in one go and let APP process them, then registration may be slow depending on the amount of subs and panels. This is exactly why Mabula recommends to first stack the panels separately.
It succeeded now, i have one panel ready, x3-y3, but only 16 subs, but it works 😉 Making this panels i put registration mode on mosaic too - is that correct?
@ary-slingerland For integrating the individual panels you should leave all settings to their default values. Once you have all panels and are ready to create the mosaic, you set all config options to the mosaic values. Having said that, setting APP to the mosaic values when integrating a single panel probably doesn't make a difference.
Dear Wouter, thank you very much for your help!
i proudly present my second mosaic try, LMC from Premium images of iTelescope
Please your comment! And Wouter van Reeven thanks again for helping me out
i couldn't upload the pic - 3MB
