Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Hi,
I have to change my computer, and I wonder if I stay on pc, or if I switch to macbook pro m1? (since there is no imac m1 pro/max)
Suddenly considering the price of parts for pc (processor, ram, heatsink, power supply, video card (unless I keep my rx570))
the switch to mac m1 pro / max would not be more judicious?
If your opinion is for the mac, which version do you recommend? (pro/max, ram...)
Thank you.
Difficult one, we of course support Mac systems and will have a native M1 version in the near future. But if it, as a system, is cheaper than a PC built.. I doubt it a bit. If you can built your own desktop, you can get very nice multicore systems (with Ryzen cpu's for instance) and lots of ram (that you can upgrade yourself if you want). The Mac can't be changed in that sense. The M1 pro and max are very impressive though for the energy they consume. Of course graphics cards are ridiculously priced right now, but APP is not yet utilizing the GPU fully so you could go with your regular GPU and upgrade that when prices are normal again (if ever).
If you really want to go for the Mac, I would say the Max is a better and more future proof system. 64 GB will help for sure as well.
@vincent-mod
Thank you, the macos system attracts me, but it's true that it's 2x the price lol.
to save a little money (a lot even lol), there is the solution of the imac 24 "m1 4k, less powerful, but all in 1, rather than plugging the macbook pro into my 24" fhd screen.
hard to choose.
APP works well on an M1? there is no lack of power?

It has worked just fine for me and my Mac mini M1. It is clearly faster than my old 2017 iMac 4 core i5 by about 25%. The betas have further reduced the time. When APP is able to use the native M1 Java it will go much faster right away. Then if GPU support and/or Vulkan support is added that will be another boost. That may be some time away though.Â
Thank you @turtlecat1000,
I have an i7 3770k (3rd gen), so I should normally see a nice difference lol
Any ETA on the Vulkan upgrade to APP?
We don't have an eta no, focus currently is on a new Java version, settings to save, etc.
