UPDATE FROM MABULA

I have had a very rough 2 months unfortunately health wise. I was struck 3x in a row with bacterial infections. The second infection occurred  after a routine hospital checkup and I became very sick. I had to rest and take a lot of antibiotics. Once I was recovering and restarting work 1 month ago, I again became sick. The infection was not yet gone, so even more antibiotics and rest was needed. Needless to say, it took a lot of my energy and I needed a lot of rest.

Finally, the infection is really gone and my energy is coming back step-by-step now and I have started work again. I am terribly sorry to have kept you waiting for support. I will address all outstanding questions and e-mails step-by step and will be on the forum daily from today.

APP 2.0.0-beta47 will come soon as well, a lot of work was already completed before I became very ill, so the release is also nearly ready for you. Beta47 will be much faster actually. Many workflows will be more than 2x faster, mosaics can even be 10x faster than before because registration really received a major boost... all compared to beta46.  Before I release it, I will make sure that everything is working properly and then I will release it.

Master Flat Incorrect Orientation?

Hi Mabula,

I am currently using APP v.1050.  Thanks for your timely bug fixes and updates!

I am having a problem generating my master flat.  Seems that APP is applying the master flat that is in an incorrect orientation to my light frames.  I ran my flats and lights through DSS to confirm this.  I opened both the DSS master flat file and APP master file in PS and the APP file is vertically flipped in orientation vs the DSS file.  I noticed this issue when looking at a calibrated light frame generated by APP and noticed dust motes throughout.  The DSS calibrated light has properly removed them.  Is there a master flat calibration setting in APP that I am missing?

Best Regards,
Ricky

Hi Ricky,

You're most welcome 😉

I am having a problem generating my master flat.  Seems that APP is applying the master flat that is in an incorrect orientation to my light frames.  I ran my flats and lights through DSS to confirm this.  I opened both the DSS master flat file and APP master file in PS and the APP file is vertically flipped in orientation vs the DSS file.  I noticed this issue when looking at a calibrated light frame generated by APP and noticed dust motes throughout.  The DSS calibrated light has properly removed them.  Is there a master flat calibration setting in APP that I am missing?

This sounds very strange indeed.

APP never flips calibration frames and will always ignore any orientation tag from metadata. Maybe the cause is related to not loading the required calibration frames? Currently, APP has quite some strict rules for calibration of your data. I'll work soon on making this easier. But for now, it will be most helpfull if you could post some screenshots of the masterflats, the light and the calibrated light frame? And/or send me some lights and calibration frames, then I'll help you to solve this problem. If you are okay with sending me some data, you can send it to support@astropixelprocessor using wetransfer or dropbox.

Kind regards,

Mabula

Hi Ricky,

I did find a bug which might have caused your troubles.

The instrument/camera name contained a : which caused the file names of the master calibration frames to be created wrongly.

I have fixed this now for all problematic characters in file names.

https://www.astropixelprocessor.com/community/release-information/astro-pixel-processor-1-051-preparing-next-release/

I think calibration works fine now on your data. I have attached the stack of your 5 calibrated light frames:

Flats were calibrated with the masterbias of the 5 bias frames

Lights were calibrated with a BPM (created from the darks and flats), the masterflat of the bias subtracted flats, and the masterdark of the 5 darks.

St med 1500.0s NR x 1.0 LZ3 NS full eq add sc BWMV nor AA RL MBB5 1stLNC it2 St

I’ll try to release 1.051 with the fix soon.

Let me know what you think of this.

Cheers,

Mabula
