Improving Overlap E...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Improving Overlap Edges from Multiple Sessions without perfect alignment

I took just under 14 hours of shots of the Markarian's Chain with my Canon 6D mkii (non-modded). This was done in 4 sessions, with flats, darks, and bias for each night. APP 1.082 has done a nice job on the central portion of the chain from my composition, but the edges of the mis-aligned frames are clearly visible in the background. Each session had a meridian flip, and I think the bottom image edge doesn't flatten out always, so appears top and bottom in these images as faint bands.

Are there any tips you may have that could improve the integration so that these bands don't appear?

I've attached the stretched integrated image, and a crop to show the crop I would like. For those interested, I've also attached my processing of the core. Happy with that part, but I'd like to have the wider composition with some of the surrounding galaxies.

All help and comments appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, enable LNC and MBB (Multi Band Blending) in tab 6 Integrate. Did you do that? I would use the standard settings for LNC and MBB to about 10%. If you did do that, you can go to each panel integration and perform LPC correction first, save that and repeat that for each panel, then mosaic integrate it again, followed by another LPC correction on the mosaic.

@vincent-mod Ah, I did do LNC level 1 3step, but not the MBB. I'll try that now 🙂
