Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

@gregwrca,

Do you mean gradient/light pollution correction? Or background calibration?

For instance, I have used a Baader UHC-s filter in a lot of my own data and I have never seen problems with regards to background correction/calibration.

The filter won't prevent APP from getting a nice neutral background. The filters will have influence on overall colors of course, but this won't prevent APP from getting a good neutral background.

The Star Color Calibration tool is the most important step to get the colors right in the stars and nebula. Do share your data on the forum and I will help with how you need to set the parameters for Star Color Calibration. The slope and constant values in the Black Body Star Color Calibration actually depend on the filters that were used 😉

Cheers,

Mabula

Great info and thank you. As soon as I get to use this filter I'll let you know how it works out. Right now I have a hydrogen Alpha filter on my modded DSLR. I'm having trouble when I combine RGB with with the hydrogen Alpha data my stars end up being red. Is there a way to protect them while registering the two frames together?

@gregwrca,

Protecting in registration is not an option.

If the stars become too red, then you will need increase the multipliers of Blue and Green to counter that 😉 (or reduce the multipliers of both Red and H-alpha)
