Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Hi,
I'm noticing that master dark files are being created that don't make sense to me.
For example, I just loaded one sub that is 180s in length and ISO800, put it in session 2, loaded my 180s darks in the same session, with flats and flatdarks at 1/30s exposure used across all sessions.
In the working folder, I now have two master files for session 2: MD-IG_800.0-E180.0s-CANON_EOS_1000D-3948x2622-session_2.fits and MD-IG_800.0-E91.0s-CANON_EOS_1000D-3948x2622-session_2.fits
I understand the E180.0s file, but where has the 91.0s file come from? None of my exposures are at 91s, and I don't get why two masters would be created
Thanks, Brendan
Is it possible you have a few files that are 91s amongst everything?
I'll have to look! I'm fairly certain not. They all say 180s in the filenames. Plus, there was only one sub in session 2. Looks like I've got a job to sift through them all, or just watch out for this happening again and then drilling down to understand what's going on.
I think they may be in the darks, not the lights. APP does create different masters if there are different darks.
How very interesting - just did a search through all my darks files, found out there's an 'exposure time' column I can view in the search results, and there it is! One 91s exposure, even though it was timed at 180s and says 180s in the filename. There are some others at different times too. Never even remotely occurred to me that this could happen. OK, well, looks like APP has revealed something I didn't know about my darks library.
Thanks for the help! 🙂
Nice! Have a look in the fits headers of those other exposures, maybe the capture program is having an issue there.
They're all Canon CR2 files, not FITS, but I've been through the other exposure durations and picked up a few more, which also tally with some other oddly-named masters that APP generated. So, I'm fairly sure this was the problem - just a handful of files among many - so I'm happy just doing a quick check when/if I rebuild my darks libraries in future. Learned a new thing today.
Thanks again for your help. 🙂
Excellent, I love to learn as well. 😉
