Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

I mistakenly shot a sequence in Sharpcap RAW8 (while in Australia, I'm back in UK). Its a bright target (Milky Way) and I can get most of the vignetting out in Tools but having painstakingly constructed what should be a consistent RAW8 calibration set (Darks, Dk Flats, Flats) I fail to get a usable Masterflat. The flats read in OK but when APP starts generating a Masterflat the dispersion each flat frame emerges zero. I guess this is APP failing to generate a ?16 or 32 bit file for further work. Is this a bug? Tried all the combinations that look relevant. Masterdark and Master Dk flat behave themselves.

Thanks! Brian

I'm not sure, I never worked with RAW8 I think. Can you upload your data so we can check it out? (if it's a lot, just limit it to 20-30 calibration subs per calibration type and 20-30 lights)

Thanks for uploading (please use the forum for a notification, I can see that faster). 🙂 I'm not sure it can be used properly though, Mabula mentioned it may not. We'll see, thanks for the very detailed instructions. If this is 8-bit data, that will definitely be an issue as the data will be compromised then and a good calibration is likely not possible.

Of course I will try, just saying it may be an issue. I'll see what I can find.

Very sorry to inform you, but the 8-bit nature of the data is indeed the issue. A calibration can't be made due to the lack of data in each frame. This is why the masterflat is reduced to nothing, because the noise estimation in the darkflats makes no sense anymore.
