Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi,

It's been over a month since beta2 had been released. Are there any plans to release the next beta shortly? Some fixes in there are surely welcome! Also, beta3 notes are missing in the release notes' "work in progress" section. Are there any news/updates available?

Thanks,

Jochen

Hi,

Any response to my question would be highly appreciated. In another thread, I recently read Mabula planned to release beta 3  "within the next 7 days", but that was nearly 2 weeks ago. Forgive me to be unsure of what to think about this...

While I fully understand the issue with firm date commitments pertaining development and release dates , I do not exactly follow why completed fixes are not being released. To mitigate the expectation /commitment problem, in our company we use to release software updates in bi-weekly cycles. Whatever is ready will be pushed out the door for testing, whatever is unfinished will be moved to the next iteration. This way a constant progress is ensured and bugs are identified as early as possible in the process, while developers are relieved from the burden of meeting unrealistic deadlines. For APP, it might be a huge leap forward to implement similar cycles every 4, 8 or 12 weeks. As a first step, beta 3 would be great.

Sincerely,

Jochen

Hi Jochen @jochen-scharmann,

Beta 3 took much longer due to a problem that was reported on macOS unfortunately relating to virus/malware. It took me a long time to make sure that the problem was not on our end, but caused by false positive of Indego VirusBarrier. It messed up my expectations big time and I could not go forward without having that solved first as you can understand.

Luckily, that issue is now solved and I am working to get the beta3 out there.
