Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Hi,
I just installed APP on a MacPro 2009 running Catalina and a MacbookPro running Monterey. Both don't show any other drive both internal and external than the one it is installed on. Both run on 256 GB systemdisks without data and other drives don't appear within APP. What do I do wrong?
@donald Can you check and make sure that the drive appears under /Volumes please?
In Disk Utility all drivenames are preceeded with \volume

Ah, no, in APP there is nothing more than just "\" and "users" and "Donald", "Donald" being the working folder. There is nothing on a higher level than "\".
@donald Just a side node. Unix and unix-like systems (like linux and macOS) don't have "\". They only have "/". In other words, the separator used is a forward slash. Only Windows uses backslashes.Â
Having said that, what version of APP are you on?
Yes you are right "/". The version is 1.083.2 for Mac.
@donald Thanks for confirming the version of APP. I am not aware of any permission settings needed in the macOS settings to give APP permission to see external drives on Catalina. On Monterrey, can you check and verify that APP has the required permissions by clicking on the Apple logo to the upper left of the screen and selecting System Settings?

Go to the field: "Folder Name", delete whatever is in there and type: "/volumes".
Then the button for the file loader shows: "/volumes" and click on the button. Now the fileloader opens with all the drives.
Now that I have APP running I can tell that this volume changing is very poorly programmed. It is simply impossible to easily go through your drives and folders. My built in drives are slower than my Samsung T5 drives on a USB 3.1 port so I have quite some work in switching from the internal drive that holds all my images and the work drive outside.
@donald Unfortunately Java on macOS doesn't reveal which directories are mapped to external folders so this is the best we can do. Agreed though that it is a shortcoming but as long as macOS doesn't improve in this respect, it cannot be solved.
