Olympus ORF: tested...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

I have downloaded a trial version 1.079 but appear to be unable to load my olympus raw ORF files. My camera is an EM5 mk2.

Interestingly in playing with some old files I can load ORF files from an EM5 mk1.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

That is strange as that model is in the supported list. What kind of error do you get?

Hi Chris @crowland,

I have checked a sample ORF of the EM5 M2 and it just loads fine here:

Olympus EM5 M2

Have you checked if the ORF is not corrupt somehow? Can you open it with another application?

If you think that the file is okay, please upload it to our server:

https://ariesprodstor.astropixelprocessor.com:7001/

login and password: appuser

you will see a folder: UnsupportedRaws

Please upload it there and let me know once uploaded. I will have a look then at what is happening 😉

Hi Chris @crowland,

Thank you very much for uploading the ORF file. This ORF file will work in APP 1.080 😉

Olympus E M5Mark2 fixed

The issue was that the ORF file does not have the whole sensor dimensions which was hard coded in our raw convertor. I have fixed this now, also for other camera models and of other brands as well.

It seems that you only used half of the sensors surface, right? The raw dimensions were 4640x3472 of your ORF file versus 9280x6932 of the whole sensor.

Kind regards,

Mabula

Mabula

Thanks for getting back to me. Good news that it will work in the next version. Is that likely to be released before my 30 day trial is over? I have realised I can convert my files to tiff and have been playing with a few of them but would obviously like to try it out with native ORF files as well.

Yes my raw dimensions are 4640x3472 but I am pretty sure that is the full sensor. It is a m43 camera of course so think that makes sense?

Regards

Chris

If your trial runs out and you still need more test time, you can ask Mabula for a small extension, just drop him an email for that. And yes, it's best not to convert the raw files, unless you can be very sure the conversion didn't change the raw data at all.

Hello, I have seen that the new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III is currently not supported. So I've tried to upload an .orf from the camera to the > https://ariesprodstor.astropixelprocessor.com:7001/ <

but access was denied. Is there an other possibility to send you an image from the E-M1 Mk III so the images from the cam would be supported asap?
