Hi

I have been shooting primarily with A7S either duo narrowband or light pollution filter. With full spectrum H-Alpha this camera gives vibrant colors.

However, recently I decided to go 600mm with Sony RX10M3

I acquired higher amount of data (330 frames vs 150 frames of A7S approx) and look at the side by side. Though the galaxy is bigger, it lacks life and colors. And advice on processing parameters? Left is Sony RX10M3

Right two are Sony A7S with 135mm and 300mm

Sony rx10 M3 600mm F4 ISO 200 25sx330

Sony A7S full spectrum with LPS filter 150x20s ISO 4000

Both had around 35 darks

I don’t know the answer to your question. I do however have a question for you since i have a Sony a7iii. What capture software do you use for the Sony?

Cheers,

Michel

So, does the P&S camera produce RAW images or already processed ones (like JPG)? Also your A7S has a much better sensor, probably more sensitive to color and is full spectrum. All those are big differences.

Yes it has RAW.  I shoot RAW and files are sony format ARW. The Sensor is not too bad. Its a 1" sensor. Yes Halpha sensivity is not there, but otherwise at  ISO 200 dynamic range is good.

when you say data capture, you mean what intervalometer? I just use an external intervalometer. On my RX10 I use the Timelapse APP

Ok thanks! I used to use AstroPhotography Tool (APT) but that doesn’t work with Sony... so i was just looking for software supporting Sony with kind of the same features.

Hi Vincent

This is the best I could do.

Can I upload the RAWs somewhere for you to try. this is RX10M3 with 1" sensor and 600mm lens

Yes, you can upload them to our APP server, login/password appuser

Create your own directory and put them in there. I think it really comes down to sensor differences, I mean if you just take your data from the A7S and easily get the color out of it, compared to the data from this P&S, then the reason lies within the data. If I have time I'll do a processing on it, but I already know I can't magically add more color to it, color is hard to get out and better equipment always helps there.
