Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

After having problems getting other programs to recognize my master flats, I realized that, instead of the standard key word "FILTER" (which is used in the lights), the MF files contains "FILT-1" and then "FILTNUM." I presume if there were two filters used for the flat, there'd be FILTNUM = 2 and a FILT-2 etc.

I think I understand the reasoning, but that seems to me an edge use case. Meanwhile, only APP recognizes what FILT-1 means, and no other program I tried seems to. Could we name the first filter FILTER like everyone else does, and maybe use FLT-2 etc for the exceedingly rare case that someone uses multiple filters for one flat, if that's needed at all?

I just ran into this and it is a significant problem for me. i just processed two weeks worth of flats at multiple rotator angles, only to find I cannot use them b/c the filter keyword is wrong. I used multi-session to stack them by date and rotator angle, and kept the same dark files. I did this b/c Pixinsight is way too slow to deal with for stacking all these files and the file sizes are insane, not to mention its slow.

However now I am stuck since apparently all of my master flats I just generated are no good.

@mikecmp I hear you. For now: Download ASTAP (free) and that lets you easily batch change fits header keywords. It's a workaround, though takes extra steps (and yet another program).
APP allows you to do that too (In Tools), but that does create a new file each time.
