Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

I know you've got a couple of additional raw formats on your todo list. I'd like to have more for everyone, in particular my needs are for Leica RWL and Panasonic RW2 files.

Also if adding RAWs is a problem, you should open up other restrictions such as requiring raw file for calibration frames so supporters can at least work with what they have, even if its only JPGs. Its Juan's dictating how people must use PI that made me give APP a chance. I just hope I haven't made a mistake, APP doesnt yet offer me a viable alternative to switch or recommend APP to others. It has promise only.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your request. I'll add Leica RWL and Panasonic RW2 files to my priorities list 😉

Adding RAW support is not a problem. Full RAW support is not implemented yet due to having set priorities higher for other features during development. I chose to start support with Canon, Nikon, FITS and TIFF support since most astrophotographers would need this. But now APP is released, so the support for other RAW brands/types is becoming a real priority. A lot of photographers are requesting this so I'll start work soon on expanding support for the requested RAW types.

I have just released APP 1.050 with complete support for JPG processing like registration, normalisation, integration as well, TIFF was already possible 😉

You can make master frames from JPGs and TIFFs as well, the created masters will be in FITS format and can be used to calibrate TIFF or JPG frames.

Kind regards,

Mabula

Thanks, will install update soon, my computer is tied up with 400+ RAWs integration step in APP. Its chugging slow (using what I currently understand is the best (slowest) quality options. I did like it told be up front I needed to clear 620GB extra free space for the integrate to complete, so will see if it was accurate and finishes in a few more days.

Wow, 400+ raws... regarding the speed: APP really benefits if it can work on a fast SSD drive. On non-SSD drives the speed will be much less.

Are you using linear fit clipping for outlier rejection by any chance? (I wouldn't suggest it, it's really slow and not really recommended, I'll upgrade this soon however)
