Update regarding As...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Starting today, Mabula Haverkamp will continue all support on the forum and email and development of APP will continue as well by Mabula on a full-time basis.

Unfortunately, Vincent Groenewold, is no longer able to assist Mabula in customer support nor development due to severe health issues in the last 6-12 months. We wish Vincent and his family all the best in this difficult time for him and his family.

Mabula has been working on APP's development, it's documentation and on email support which is in fact fully up-to-date. Mabula will release a new APP version soon and will continue forum support now as well without Vincent.

Due to Vincent having to stop work, Mabula's workload doubled more or less and this is a problem currently. The email support is a big daily task as is administration of the company due to it's healthy status despite some unfounded rumours on internet fora. Clearly many forum visitors do not realize that most of APP's users do not participate on the fora at all and the user base of APP is much larger worldwide actually.

Anyone that wishes to help Mabula with support on the forum and by email can send Mabula an email at support@astropixelprocessor.com and we can discuss the possibilities and arrange for an email account and moderation rights on the forum.

We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication in the past months on the forum. APP is 100% alive and Mabula will continue working on APP full-time going forward. Our company is very healthy and there is no reason to stop working on APP at all.

Greetings to you all from Mabula !

I’m one of the silent users who have been enjoying APP for five years and will likely continue using this amazing piece of software for many years to come. I occasionally visit this forum to read updates and learn more about the development of the software and I’m glad to see that, despite silly rumors, APP is still actively being developed. The people who complain are a vocal minority, but as you mentioned, there are thousands of us who use APP and are happy with the results it provides. We simply don’t have time to waste complaining, we are too busy capturing photons and processing our images.

Mabula and Vincent, thank you for your work on APP. The astro community truly appreciates everything you’ve done !

I hope Vincent will recover soon and I send all my encouragement to him and his family.

Luth

Also another ‘silent user’ who really likes using APP but does not use the forum contents as much as I should.  Still it was nice to ‘hear from you’ to put out the various concerns being raised recently.  Glad to hear of your continued successes with APP and refocusing your efforts during challenging times - looking forward to it having a great future.  I like the intent of the built in documentation and look forward to seeing that continue to get ‘more better’.  Best wishes to Vincent and family.

Thank you all for the well wishes! It's certainly been a ride unfortunately. I will still be here once in a while helping out, but until my treatments are finished it's a bit uncertain. Thanks once again.

Hello

Thanks Mabula for the update, fully understood and great to hear there's a future for the product going forward.

I also feel sorry for Vincent, and I hope he will recover well.

Kind regards,

Rodolphe

I could probably help out in January after I take care of a big project. I have written multiple small tutorials for APP and am the go-to person for it at Telescope Live. I use APP for every image other than planetary stuff and have gotten some great results from it. https://www.astrobin.com/users/ImNewHere/

@mabula-admin Thank you for the update Mabula and I sincerely wish Vincent and his Family well in his challenges coming up.  He has always been such a prominent, helpful and supportive presence when I have had issues in the past.

I have had concerns recently as I had posted an issue with Mosaics in January this year which never got resolved which I found strange, and i was going to have a chat with you at EAF in London, but sadly you weren't there.  I still have issues unresolved with Mosaics so I will start a new thread.

Good luck with your search for help - I only wish I had the technical processing skills to put myself forward.

With all best wishes and Clear Skies

Graham

@vincent-mod I just wanted to ask Mabula how you are doing - provided it's ok discussing it in this forum. Having been in a similar situation with a prolonged medical therapy with uncertain outcome I do keep my fingers crossed for you that it works in the end as it did for me. Never give up, keep fighting for a silver line on the horizon. Best wishes, Centaurus

Happy to read your post, Mabula. Best wishes to you Vincent, I hope you'll recover soon! You both did and still do a wonderful job! Mabula I hope you will find soon competent members and users of APP to help you bring this piece of software to the next level. Can't wait to use the next version of APP.

@centaurus Yeah no problem and thank you for the kind words! I was diagnosed with CLL (leukemia) after getting sick with weird stuff more often. I've always been super healthy before that. My first treatment went wrong as my body couldn't handle it, so that was me walking on a thin line and I'm still recovering from that. Going much better though, slowly getting my energy back, enough to perhaps resume my running soon. 🙂

+1 to best wishes for Vincent. That sort of thing should be reserved for us old guys.

@mabula, just to float an option, I'm a recently retired software engineer. Java hasn't been my first language for awhile but I've done a ton of work in it so I'm certainly familiar. I also had a side career in technical writing. Not looking for a job, just wondering if I could help out in either domain. I don't mind writing tests, fixing bugs, or doing user support. Not in it for the glamour, just would like to help APP grow. And I know that adding someone into a project is an expense and time suck all in itself, so I won't feel badly if you don't want your elbow joggled.

Just know this: there are plenty of us who think this is a great piece of software and want to see it flourish.

I will add my thoughts and prayers for Vincent and his family for continued recovery and a return to normal!

Thanks for the update, Mabula.  It is good to hear that the product is still being developed, even though the load is more than you should have to take on.

Bob

Silent owner/lover of APP here too. Good Luck to Vincent in your recovery. The community is cheering for you. Mabula - do what you need to do and take your time. We're just happy with any incremental updates and support we get. Finally, I love the outpouring of support for these great APP engineers from the community. I wish I could help more but I'm no expert so I will just keep silently supporting you all!

@Vincent-mod and @mabula-admin - sending you both the best wishes - this is a great product and you both have been part of my astrophotography from the start!

Can offer to help, but I maybe will cause more problems than I fix! - but who knows, perhaps I am better with APP than I realise! Certainly happy to help with new user onboarding and "how to" stuff until it gets tricky.

Thinking good thoughts for you Vincent!

@mabula-admin Nice to read you Mabula and to be able to enjoy this beta 30 version.

My thoughts also go out to Vincent and his family, we can only wish him a speedy recovery and thank him for all he has done for APP. We can't wait for you to be back in shape to continue your contribution to this excellent astrophotography software.

I'm also one of APP's first users, and I've always believed that this application makes a difference. I still use it with great satisfaction and pleasure. What some people don't understand is that you're a perfectionist, Mabula, and you'd never release a version of APP that you weren't completely satisfied with... That's what makes you and APP such a great value.

Wish Mabula, Vincent and family, and APP all the best!

André
