Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi, I shoot with two DSLRs mounted on a single tracker. One has a dual-narrowband Ha-Oiii filter and the other just a regular light pollution filter. As the cameras are never super perfectly aligned and also have slightly different sensors (one is Nikon D810A, the other D850), I intend to use the powerful multi-session capability of APP. But then ther does not seem to be an option to select the Demosaic PER SESSION. I would like to do Ha-Oii for one and AiryDisc for the other. Is this possible? If not, what is the suggested workaround? My understanding is the Demosaic is a global setting (affects all sessions).

Appreciate any hints.

@headworx Hi Szymon, your understanding is correct. This is not possible with the current version of APP but Mabula has it on his todo and this will come in a future version of APP. Until then you will need to process the data of the two filters separately and then register the integration results against each other to be able to continue processing them together.

Thanks for confirming Wouter!

I have tried the two separate sessions approach, but then when I loaded the resulting FITS as lights, the APP threw an exception during the integration step (which I have not captured). Will attempt to retry this again tonight and will post the results (or the error details).

Thanks!

OK it worked this time. Thanks for the suggestions and looking forward to the streamlined workflow in the upcoming version.

I really do like the results (probably even too much by oversaturating the image 😀 ). This is **only** about 1h worth of data, two DSLR cameras, one with a dual narrowband Ha-Oiii, the other with a broadband light pollution filter, Bortle 5 zone. And I was late - half of Orion was already below the horizon.

Note that I wrote "a future version" and not "the next version". I am not sure if this will be in the next version, which is why I wrote it like that.

Yeah yeah. No worries 🙂 I'm in the software business myself. I know how it works 🙂
