Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Multi session/multi filter flat dark problem

I'm trying to run the calibrate step on a two session, three filter project using flat darks.

I have flat darks at gain 76 and 1 second added to the red filter for all sessions and APP created a master flat dark: MDF-ISO_gain_76.0-exp_1.0s-50subs-ASI_Camera__2___ASCOM_-4656x3520-WC_1_3.0-avg-Red-all_sessions.fits

However, when it tries to process session 1's red flats I get an error about not having either a matching bias or master dark flat. The flats are 1 second at gain 76 so they ought to match. At least that's what I think is going on because the APP critical warning doesn't tell me what it is looking for but only that it can't find an appropriate master.

What makes this stranger is if I start fresh but still in multi-session/multi-filter modes and only add in session 1 & 2 lights, session 1 & 2 red flats, darks and red flat darks it seems to work without complaint.

I'd be happy to grab any relevant log info but it's not clear what is relevant as I don't see any errors or warnings in the console output just in that dialog that pops up when it gets to flat processing.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You can disregard the error part of this. When I constructed my session directory I accidentally put the wrong light frames in session 2. That is what it was really complaining about, not the flats. If there is anything to be addressed it is that the error message was misleading.

Hi Linda, thanks for letting us know! Yes, it would be nice if the error was more specific in this case. I'll tag Mabula to see if that's possible; @mabula-admin
