UPDATE FROM MABULA
I have had a very rough 2 months unfortunately health wise. I was struck 3x in a row with bacterial infections. The second infection occurred  after a routine hospital checkup and I became very sick. I had to rest and take a lot of antibiotics. Once I was recovering and restarting work 1 month ago, I again became sick. The infection was not yet gone, so even more antibiotics and rest was needed. Needless to say, it took a lot of my energy and I needed a lot of rest.
Finally, the infection is really gone and my energy is coming back step-by-step now and I have started work again. I am terribly sorry to have kept you waiting for support. I will address all outstanding questions and e-mails step-by step and will be on the forum daily from today.
APP 2.0.0-beta47 will come soon as well, a lot of work was already completed before I became very ill, so the release is also nearly ready for you. Beta47 will be much faster actually. Many workflows will be more than 2x faster, mosaics can even be 10x faster than before because registration really received a major boost... all compared to beta46. Â Before I release it, I will make sure that everything is working properly and then I will release it.
Â
Going on 10 days now trying to stack a 6 panel mosaic. How do I know if and when this will end? For all I know it could be 5 minutes from finishing registering... or another 2 months. Â
Its 344 R, G, B subs. I have done 700 subs of a single target overnight. But this is a huge swath of the sky. How can I possibly know how much longer this is going to take? It has failed so many times that I made the register parameters as loose as possible because I know the have proper overlap. Â
Id like to cancel and maybe just do all of a single color, but I already invested 10 days of computer power on this. It has been sitting on 80% while the log meter just spews out worthless information. Every morning I wake up and check... and nothing. And like I said without knowing truly how much longer is left, I have no way to make the executive decision on whether or not to cut my losses and try just to stack a single channel. I have had great luck with APP and mosaics most times, but these really wide field mosaics are such a challenge for the computer and the program itself. Â
Hi,
Â
You should stack each single frame before making a mosaic 😉Â
I have no way to tell what frames are what. I had CDC generate the mosaic. I dont mind letting it do its thing... but its not giving me any details on what 80% stacking means. I feel like it always goes quick and hits 80% and just sits there doing things. All the words that are scrolling by are pointless unless there is some form of reference. for example:
10:31:46 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full , Not Same Camera: iteration 1991 RMS 28.87693
10:34:31 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full , Not Same Camera: iteration 1992 RMS 28.87518
10:37:16 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full, Not Same Camera: iteration 1993 decreasing trust region size
10:40:05 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full, Not Same Camera: iteration 1994 decreasing trust region size
10:42:57 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full , Not Same Camera: iteration 1995 RMS 28.87457
10:45:42 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full , Not Same Camera: iteration 1996 RMS 28.87388
10:48:40 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full , Not Same Camera: iteration 1997 RMS 28.87257
10:51:25 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full , Not Same Camera: iteration 1998 RMS 28.87012
10:54:55 - Multiple View Uncalibrated Simple DDC Full, Not Same Camera: iteration 1999 decreasing trust region size
What will the iterations be? will they stop at 2000? will the iterations go to 250,000 and this will take the rest of my adult life? will the decreasing trust region size go down to 0, or will it go to -1000, or will it go to zero, and back up to a billion and back to waiting for the rest of my life, but never wanting to quit it since it has already gone this far. This code has to mean something. APT is great with many things but this is not one of them. Having the main progress 0-100% is just not enough when it comes to mosaics. It took maybe 1 or 2 days to get to 80% and its been sitting here for days. id be ok starting over and just doing all one channel to make it easier for me, but I have no point of reference with the total project and all the work that has been done from the start.Â
Â
Edit: Yes, they will go past 2000. I am at 2001, so its clearly doing "something" but its not in the least bit helpful.Â
My record is 14 hours, on a relatively powerful PC too. Would it surprise you to learn that it was also a mosaic? A mosaic from two different telescopes and 3 different cameras no less.
The rejection-map was hilarious:
After that little experiment, I am now stacking each panel individually, crop and remove gradients and THEN stitch them together.
Right now I am about 12 hours into a 65 panel/195 master SHO lights stack of the Cygnus region. I imagine it will be done when I wake up in the morning since this computer is pretty powerful. It is the dynamic distortion correction that takes a while. It was all done with a QHY600M Pro, so all are 60mp subs to make my master lights. I would have finished it months ago, but I kept adding more and more to it and I am well over 500 hours of integration on this one lol
