Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Can no longer process HaRGB images? After registering the Ha and RGB integrations and loading them into RGB combine, the Ha image id forcing R G and B assignments. Used to just select Ha for image then assign to red in combining. No longer works. Help?

Hi Greg @gregwrca,

I have downloaded the RGB and Ha integrations, thanks 😉

I can combine them into a HaRGB without problems.

If you load them into the RGB combine tool:

the RGB image channels are automatically assigned to Red, Green and Blue. Right?

Then the Ha image, since the data is 3 channel, APP assumes it's R.G.B data, but in fact it's H-alpha data.

Fits header:

SIMPLE = T / Java FITS: Mon May 21 12:06:57 PDT 2018
BITPIX = 16 / bits per data value
NAXIS = 3 / number of axes
NAXIS1 = 5211 / size of the n'th axis
NAXIS2 = 3521 / size of the n'th axis
NAXIS3 = 3 / size of the n'th axis
EXTEND = T / Extensions are permitted
BSCALE = 1.0 / scaling to 16bit
BZERO = 32768.0 / offset data range to that of unsigned short
DATE = '2018-05-21T20:00:00' / creation date of Other/Processed
DATE-OBS= 'N/A ' / observation date of Other/Processed
SOFTWARE= 'Astro Pixel Processor by Aries Productions' / software
VERSION = '1.060 ' / Astro Pixel Processor version
FRAME = 'Other/Processed' / frame was processed by Astro Pixel Processor
INSTRUME= 'NOTAVAILABLE' / instrument name
CFAIMAGE= 'no ' / Color Filter Array pattern
GAIN = -1.0 / gain or ISO depending on instrument

And you can simply override APP here:

If the window pops-up to assing a channel for the H-alpha image, sinply select Hydrogen-Alpha for the first channel. You can click cancel on the 2nd and third channel, the 3 channels will contain identical data.

Select Hydrogen Alpha on Ha image

Then combination is as usual:

RGB Combine HaRGB

Let me know if you can get it to work now 😉

Kind regards,

Mabula

Thanks, that makes sense...kinda. Not sure why it didn't recognize it as Ha or Custom at first. In subsequent attempts it worked perfectly, so it was something I did somewhere along the line. All is well.

Hi Greg @gregwrca, excellent.

If you process the data with new the multi-channel function, metadata will be added to indicate it's H-alpha data (or whatever you assign it to be), so then APP should definitely be able to recognize it correctly 😉

Cheers,

Mabula
