Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

FYI (no hints on the problem)

I am using APP 1.082 on iMac (see below). At unpredictable points during processing, suddenly the Mac is black. Completely dead, with a basic warning on the screen, and no information about the point of crashing or information can be sent to Apple. Restarting requires complete reboot. No other program crashes this bad. Must be unprotected writing outside of allowed memory areas or so. It happened the fourth or fifth time in three months. Otherwise the Mac is running fine, so must be APP.

Mmm, this I’ve never heard before so my immediate suspicion is that there also might be an issue with your system. Of course you mention you only see this with APP, but did you try other software that taxes your CPU and memory so much as APP does?

I got to be careful hear not making any statement about the cause of the crash, since it crashes so severely there is no trace of information pointing at a possible cause. On the other hand it only has happened with APP on and with recent versions (for about half a year, now). Therefore it’s was FYI until you have more cases.

Thanks a lot for that, I think there are some stress tests also for the Mac. You may try that to see if it's a system issue or not.

I use the latest version of APP (currently 1.083-beta1) on MacOS Catalina and never experience any crashes. How much memory of the 16 Mb have you allocated for APP?

Thanks (wvreeven), that is good to know that APP should not crash on the Mac. By default I have 8 GB (have of the memory) allocated to APP. Should that not be sufficient? Could it be that I have too many other programs open (Office 365)? I still think a hard crash (black screen, rebooting Mac) must not occur. Best Regards, Mario

Some additional analysis indeed show that memory management on the Mac can be the cause of a hard crash when memory is tight. Any other program (than APP) can then crash the computer, although it should be preceded by warnings or otherwise.

Especially Safari can use up a lot of cashed data (see screen shot below) and cause allocation of 5 GB or more easily.

Then, when Safari is quit, memory is released again.

Remedy when using APP: quit other programs when not needed and start with a green (top left) memory allocation to APP.

Thanks for your support and suggestions, Vincent and wvreeven!

@herbert so does APP show any crash information or does it crash without any notice? The times I see that happen is usually because of a general system issue, like you can see above as well with resources being extremely low or a stability issue.

@Vincent....NO the APP does not show any rental, as I said, you can load all images into Raw, but if you try to do something afterwards, the whole program crashes immediately

Could you try launching it from a terminal/shell to see what message the system puts out?
