Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
I am currently using Big Sur on my MacBook and am no longer able to load .tiff images taken with my iPhone. This was not always the case as prior to this year, I was able to load all of my images without a problem. The issue does not occur with other stacking software, such as Siril. I have included the error code for your reference. Also attached is a sample image with its corresponding file name.
As a workaround, I load the .tiff images (light, dark, and bias frames) into Siril and convert to .fit. Then, I am able to load the images into AstroPixel.
@wderuelle TIFF support in Java (the programming language that APP was created in) can be troublesome at times.
Why don’t you shoot in FITS format? It is the de-facto image format for astronomy and it contains a lot of metadata that are very useful for image processing. I guess you are using SharpCap so please configure it to output all images in FITS format.
I would try to use SharpCap, but it is not compatible with IOS devices. I currently use NightCap on my iPhone, and it is not capable of producing .fit files. Just to reiterate, I did not have an issue with loading .tiff files during my first year of AstroPixel use. I am thinking the problem occurred in more recent Mac OS updates. If there is no way to rectify this issue, I will continue using Siril to convert images to .fit format. It is cumbersome and more time consuming, but it works (at least until I change to a different camera for astrophotography in the future). I currently use an Orion XT8 and conduct manual tracking (approximately nine images at a time before centering again).
@wderuelle Could you upload some of the tif files to
https://upload.astropixelprocessor.com/
using upload for both username and password? Please create a folder called wderuelle_tif and put them there. Then I will ask Mabula to have a look at this and see if he can add support for your images.
Hi William @wderuelle,
Thank you for uploading the Tiff files. I will have a look and will try to fix it. Chances are that our TIFF reader needs an update as well to make it work.
Mabula
