M51 2 RGB session 1 crop lpc cbg St 2

Hi, I am new to both Astro Pixel and astrophotography.

Have read the tutorials and watched most of the videos I can find to process the images but still seem to be getting real grainy pictures (one attached). I have been concentrating on M51 as get a real good view from my garden and thought I would be best just concentrating on this one until I had my imaging and processing spot on before venturing out to other objects.

It doesn't matter what I do I always seem to have so much noise in the pictures. I am in a high light pollution area but thought I would be able to amend this in APP?

Have attached TIFF of my latest session, details of what I am using and set up below:

Sky watcher 300pds

EQ6R mount

Canon 2000D

120 sec exposure

100 ISO

60 Lights

60 Darks

31 Bias

Any help or advise would really be appreciated.

Thank

I would suggest you try to get more lights, with a higher (400) ISO and a lower exposure time.

100 ISO is really low. What you win using ISO100, you loose while stretching. I suggest some experimenting: 140x75sec 400ISO, 70x150sec 400ISO. etc.

But I'm sure other people have other suggestions.

But apart from that: I would not be disappointed if this is where you started.

Thanks AH, I'll try some shorter exposure and higher ISO to start with and see what I get from that.

@maria-hine2011gmail-com, indeed, increase the ISO to 400 or 800 with such an exposure time, or use ISO100 but increase the exposure time with a factor of 4-8x to get better results. But this is not a bad start at all 😉
