Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and itĀ will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
This is my first LRGB capture with ASI1600 MM-C with Optolong filters. Obviously fully processed and combined in APP with some very minor tweaks in Lightroom.

Telescope: Explore Scientific 127mm ED APO Essential Series
Mount: SkyWatcher AZ-EQ6
Camera: ZWO ASI1600MM - Cooled
Guiding: OAG, with ZWO 120MM-S
Filters: Optolong 36mm unmounted LRGB
Gain: 0 - After the level of noise in the image I wish I used unity gain (139) as most people advise.
I cannot remember details of exposures.
Darks, flats and bias subtracted.

Thanks Greg. How do you like your ES 127mm. I love mine, for what they cost they are fantastic and the image quality is not far behind the better scopes. I use a TS field flattener with mine and I find I get perfect stars across the whole frame.

In my experience, the gain 0 setting is good for longer exposure times though š i have an asi1600 myself and have shot some excellent images with gain 0.Ā I think the sweetspot is somewhere between gain 0 and gain 139 though...still nice dynamic range and pretty low read noise. With gain 139, the dynamic range starts to get really tight I feel. But then again, if you combine plenty of images, the dynamic range will increase from that. So it does depend a bit on the target that you're shooting on which gain to use. For a high dynamic range object like M42, I would suggest to use a lower gain then 139 š

Indeed, well crafted. Love it.Ā Am replacing the focuser though, as mine tends to lose focus too often when imaging, and not so good for an autofocus motor.Ā I have been looking for a well matched FR/FF for it. Funny ES doesn't really have one. What is this TS model?

I upgraded my focuser to a Moonlite with stepper motor and am very happy with the quality of Moonlite.
