Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hi - couple of questions on this please.

First, if I right click on the subs list, I have the choice to order from "worst to best" or by "quality". Not sure what the difference is here? essentially I usually decide which to keep and delete out the others.

Second, if I have different session, eg after a meridian flip, the second session quality scores are often quite different to the first session. This seems to occur with most software of this type, and I think may be the result of different framing etc - certainly the timing isn't significantly different, and the focus etc is all the same. So I like to select the best subs from each session, and delete the remainder.

In APP, when all the lights are loaded, is it possible to group them somehow so I can delete out the worst subs from each session?

Alternatively, is there a way to  group them and then stack say the best 95% from each group?

Hope that makes sense.

Couple of follow on observations on this - when I sort from "best to worst" the list appears to sort by quality - so looks like its the same thing.

However, the reference frame chosen by APP is not the one with the highest score which seems odd. Moreover, this frame is actually quite poor quality and doesn't seem to merit the score it has been given. The ones either side of it seem decidedly better.

Oddly, the frame which APP has choses for reference is actually the one that deep Sky Stacker gives the lowest score!! this really doesn't seem quite right!

Below is a screen shot of the list showing the reference sub. and below that a screen shot of the next worst sub... which looks much better!

Any ideas??
