I have previously loaded APP (release and betas) into different directories, under Win 10. The windows control panel, uninstall programs, only shows the latest install. Now I want to delete the older versions - can I just delete the install directories? Will that leave a mess in the registry?

You should be able to remove the old directories yes, invalid registry items will always occur on Windows, they don't affect anything. I'm not expecting that to be the case here.
