Mosaic registration...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Mosaic registration: infinite loop? Taking too long.

Hi. I was just wondering whether the registration should converge at some point or there's an iteration limit...
Trying to register in mosaic mode: data from C8EHD .7 reducer ASI294MM Pro Bin2 (1425mm FL 4.67nm pixel size) and RedCat 51 (248mm FL 4.67nm pixel size). The computer I'm using is 12-core AMD Ryzen 9, 64GB RAM (32GB for APP Java VM), 3000 CUDA cores. CPU had been at 100%, almost 100 iterations so far, crunching for 12 hours straight. Should I keep waiting for it or it's stuck for good?

@mseningmail-com How many subs are you processing? Aren't you sure the answer is here:

In other words, first process the individual panels and then combine them?

Well I processed individual panels but not sure how to combine them. I ended up with 4 integrations (Leo Triplet - M65, M66, NGC3628 shot with C8 @ 1425mm focal length in LRGBHa with ASI294MM, and wide view shot with RedCat 51 @ 250mm focal length in RGB with ASI294MC - same pixel and sensor sizes).
I tried the mosaic registration but was unable to register the closeups of the galaxies to the RedCat's wide field. It looks like M65 & M66 panels overlap, but there's a gap between them and NGC3628 that I was hoping to cover by pinning them to the wide image.

The 5x difference in focal length between my scopes and star sizes turn out to be a headache here.

Any tips on combining?

As for the number of subs, I had 3x (15 subs per channel) = 175 subs from 294MM Pro and 90 subs from 294MC Pro. This was taking over 12 hours when I stopped processing, and it seems like every iteration after 50 had RMS difference of 0.0094. 12-core (24 threads) 3.7GHz CPU with 32GB RAM allocated to Java VM.

For mosaic registration, I had to add the integrations as Light frames, correct? And they are already calibrated and normalized so I don't need to specify any calibration frames at this point; if I were to integrate I'd have again each channel get combined separately because I chose "all sessions/each channel" setting in Integration tab.
