Mosaic hangs at 80%...

Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

I am attempting a 9 panel mosaic and it has been stuck at 80% on registration for over an hour and 15 minutes. I stacked the panels individually and put them in APP like I normally do and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere at all. This is with beta 25. Any ideas?

Okay, I stopped it and manually increased the star registration to 2500 and it worked.

Hi @imnewhere,

Glad to read that it worked with bumping up the star count detection 😉 I see from yoru screenshot that less than 500 stars were detected in the failed attempt, right?

If you have a mosaic, the stars that are present in the overlap areas determine of we can register the mosaic panels. So by bumping up the star count, we will detect more stars in those overlap areas which greatly increases that chance of success for the mosaic registration. It is on our issue list as well, that we will create new mosaic algorithms which will automatically fix this. So if too little stars are detected, it will try to detect more stars and make it a success. So going forward, we will improve this considerably for sure.

It actually ended up pretty decent for 3 hours and 36 minutes worth of 30s exposures split between 9 panels https://www.astrobin.com/w2d4eb/

@mabula-admin Since doing that I've done a couple more mosaics with it too and all seems well. Even managed to get an Astrobin Top Pick with one of them.
