Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
If I use normalize mode basic instead of advanced, the error goes away (but I don't yet know what result I will get)
Hi Nick @nickambrose,
Clearly a bug in registration on your dataset.I have done so much testing on dozens of mosaic datasets in the past couple of months and thought I removed all bugs because i was not getting any one anymore no matter what I would do. Did you try changing the amount of stars in 3) analyse stars? Did you put the descriptors to automatic in 4) Register?
Can you please upload it here and i will test as soon as possible:

Please make a folder with your name and issue like: NickAmbrose-MosaicBug
Upload your data in the folder and let me know once done 😉
thanks for reporting this!

Thank. you. I am uploading now to NickAMosaic bug. I have stars set to 2500
It takes 6+H to fail so I have done few experiments. I am trying to include subsets of the data but then I got the normalize bug
I just realized that due to the nature of the files being from different people, APP may need help with the filter allocation and I don't recall how I had that for the first attempt
It is possible it was trying to combine it all into a single output, when I expect to get one file for each of the 5 filters
Once my current experiment is done I will redo this and make sure the filters are all assigned correctly
it's a big upload so may take some time.
I will post once it completes.
Hi Nick @nickambrose,
Okay, if you run into an issue like this, it can really help to divide the data set in subsets. Try to process them. Maybe it could point to 1 single problematic image in the data set somehow. I will run your data myself later today problably to see what happens 😉 I think the upload is finished now? I see all data I think on our server? Can you confirm this?
Mabula
Yes, the data is up. There are two files called "color" but they are from someone else so I am not sure what they are and some from "maxthebuilder" I may have excluded because I didn't know how to re-assemble it
I think I may have accidentally put them all under one filter because I am still learning APP.
I am going back to doing a single filter at a time because I added a subset of data with all 5 channels (LRGB & H) but only got three masters (no H or B). I was doing all filters at once so the masters would be aligned, but I think I can just do a star alignment afterwards (and pick the same reference panel for each filter)
Thanks for looking into this !
So I think I am the unluckiest APP user alive. I was integrating the data I uploaded and someone suggested integrating the mosaics first and then stitching those
I chose Max's data from what I uploaded and added the RGBH data into 4 sessions
For some reason even when I select JUST the 4 H files, I get the below error (the disk is not full and it's able to write other files)
Though it says warning, it will not save the file
If I exit APP and do single filter / single session, and add the 4 H files then it works just fine, just not as a sessions, one per filter.
Hi Nick @nickambrose,
Sorry to keep you waiting. I see the data in the upload folder, but i am not quite sure what I should test now, Are the different namings of the files all different panels of a mosaic? I would assume so? Did your initial error happen when simplhy loading all and then running mosaic registration?
"For some reason even when I select JUST the 4 H files, I get the below error (the disk is not full and it's able to write other files)

I see, that you are on macOS and are using an external SSD drive I think? That error could be thrown when the SSD drive actually is not mounted at the moment of APP trying to save to it I think.

No worries at all - I should have given a better description
I was/am still new to APP so what I think I did was toss it all in (except Max's data) as that's what I thought i'd been led to believe. I honestly don't recall if I assigned filters but I may have used the auto detect feature (which only works on some of this data)
My data and Max's are mosaics, the rest is targeted data that overlaps the mosaic.
By doing a filter at a time, I've been able to make more progress (although the data from "Fritz" seems to cause an infinite loop where the regstration code flip flops between one mode then the other, prompting me in an infinite loop)
I am attaching the R channel from "Nick/Max/David" which I was able to stitch and integrate (I could not get Fritz to work)
Regarding writing files - the SSD was my first suspicion, but I did it over and over and it was always the H files it would not write (but it would the others)
When I integrated the H masters alone, it worked perfectly
In more positive news, my 9-Panel Dolphin (with the middle panel supplemented by an earlier capture and layered in) is working perfectly - a completely different data set though
I hope my description helps
