May 27 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta45 has been released !
Fully Multi-Threaded LNC, many improvements for the registration engine, platform upgrade, and further tuning of internal memory consumption and memory release back to OS.
Apr 14 2026: Google Pay, Apple Pay & WeChat Pay added as payment options
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
I just upgraded to Beta 39. Â I normally run the process through Normalization and then visually inspect some of the subframes. Â In Beta 39 when I select a subframe to view the image viewer remains blank. Â This happens with raw, as well as normalized subframes. Â I have confirmed that the preview panel are correct (i.e. 15% BG, "auto", etc.). Â Also, the histogram for these subframes shows as blank. Â I have looked at these subframes with other .fits viewers and they contain data. Â I then re-installed Beta 38, ran the same data and the subframes show up properly in the image viewer. Â I am running a Mac with Apple M1 silicon.Â
Please advise ...
Hi Mark @marksavan,
We have not seen this problem ourselves with beta39 and beta39 has no updates in it related to image drawing. Did you try re-installing beta39 to see if all is okay then?
Maybe you were running beta39 with the image viewer in a separate window? And that window was not showing?
Is all okay now, or does the problem still exists?
Mabula
@mabula-admin I have re-installed Beta 39 and now it works correctly. Â thank you
@marksavan @mabula-admin after tab 5 normalize, when you did that and you check the frames on the quality, some of them shows a white screen? I had that too.
I deletedthe beta 38 and clean everything. Install beta 39. But sometime I had it. I'll try next time a post a video here
Here is the video. I use the optolong L-quad enhance. The calibration is perfect, see it in the video and i capture the M51 with my C8 without moon. And the weirdest thing is why is the color normal in register and not in normalize.
I am going to test it in beta 38, so first i need to delete 39 and instal 38 to test it out. ill let you know
EDIT: i test it out on beta 38, but same results. So i went back to 39 and test the intergration results with and without neutralize BG in tab 5. See down below the results with remove light pollution tool.
2nd, i check my other DSO targets of the christmas nights 2025 with L-quad or L-ultimate, no issues? Even the DSO targets with L-quad also had some skybackground that shows in the graphics, but no issues in tab 5 normalization, wierd?
Hi @stefanastro,
Thank you very much for sharing the video. The white frames look white becaue the DDP autostretch blows the data up and stretches as hard as it can making the image white. The reason will be a problem with the normalization parameters for the frames that become white.
Can you take a good look the sky background and dispersion values for the images that become white relative to the images that look good after normalization?Â
I remember that the issue can occur, when there is an issue in fact with the calibration frames, like the sensor offset being incompatible for darks/bias relative to the lights I think. So please check that as well and let me know your findings.
Mabula
@mabula-admin well about the sky background in the graphic, you see in the video its on 0.5 while the dispersion on 1.
1 is good. Right?
Where can I see the values? In the table down below? Is that what you mean?
2nd about the calibration, I checked my NGC 1893, 20x 180s data same master flat and darkflats as i used in M51, but no issues?
This is really weird while NGC 1893 is lower in the Netherlands than M51.
I use the asiair plus to shoot lights and calibration. Should I try to make new flats and test it out?
The session 1 of my M51 from april 2025 has no issues with the calibration from April. Whhile the session 2 of the m51 data from Christmas 2025 has issues with the calibration that I shot after that night.
Maybe i can test the masterflat of session 1 in session 2 🧐 and see what happens?
Also I use C8HD edge with 0.7 reducer and Asi294mc-p. With L-ultimate never issues. But the L-quad, well you saw it in the video.
Would you like to have my data to test it out?
I can share both session with the master calibration.
EDIT: See here down below, the 4 selected in the list are the only 4 that shows up in white? i test it with another masterflat from April and it still shows up in white.
2nd image is the NGC 1893 with same masterflat of the l-quad on that same night. no issues?
I am going to reshoot new flats now and test that out.
Hi Stefan,
Thanks for all the information. There must be a clear reason why the 4 frames at the bottom produce the issue, I remember seeing this earlier on data of another APP user and the issue was, I think, that the data had illumination problems for some reason.
Maybe it is best that I have a look at it to determine the cause and possible find an explanation and solution. Can you upload it to our server:
https://upload.astropixelprocessor.com/
username: uploadData
password: uploadTestData
Please make a folder with your name and issue like: Stefan-Calibration-issue
Upload the data there and let me know once done. I will look at it as soon as possible 😉
The values in the graph are relative, it will be more helpful to see the absolute values as shown in the frame list. But If you upload it, I will analyse and will try to clarify everything.
Mabula
@mabula-admin thanks. I let you know.
I am going to investigate my other DSO data of 2025 of my C8HD telescope with L-quad enhance filter and load them in there too. Like NGC 1893 data for stars.
I have to intergrate them to see if they got issues too. It will take some time.
My refractor William optics pleiades 68mm also has L-quad but no issues.
I'll send a message to you when I upload it.
@mabula-admin Its uploaded with the name Stefan callibration issue
I also uploaded some other DSO of the same christmas days 2025 and M3 from spring with same old calibration frame that is needed in session 1 of M51.
What i see in NGC2903 is that the skybackground is better than M51? M51 is higher in the sky of the netherlands right? So how? I though lower objects get more light pollution. I live in B6.5
Well let me know if you find something, good luck andÂ
kind regards
Hi Stefan @stefanastro,
Thanks for the uploads, will investigate in the coming days for sure 😉
Mabula
@mabula-admin Thanks. I discovered that my refractor WO pleiades 68mm with perfect light frames, also had this issue in the normalization? I never had this in the earlier beta? I delete the frame, the frame was good only sky background was a 0.5 While in register looks normal?
@mabula-admin. i upload new data of my M51 of last april. each session got its own master calibration frames
Hi Stefan @stefanastro,
Yes, apologies from my part, I have made a new note to check this in the coming days. I have the uploaded data as well, so I will check it 😉
