My learning continues. This is Andromeda -- essentially my second astrophotograph. Taken from my backyard in DC (bortle 8/9). I need to do better at removing light pollution.

Taken with a William Optics Redcat and ZWO ASI294MC Pro OSC, Takahashi PM-1X mount. 15X4 minutes each.

2019 Andromeda 1 PI

That's fantastic for a second photo! Did you use any calibration files?

Many thanks, Vincent! I did use some calibration files -- 30 each of bias, darks and flats. I suspect that my flats did not come out too well because when I stretch an individual flat (or the master flat), I do not see any gradation in the image, etc. I find it hard to believe that the scope has zero vignetting. I need to learn how to take proper flats. The darks, on the other hand, show an amp glow very clearly.

Excellent, so when you think one of your calibration files is wrong, it's better to leave it out as it may have a bad influence on the endresult. Some more bias frames might also be helpful, as they're easy to make about a 100 is advised. But, really good start!

Thanks! Great advice and good to know... I should reprocess the image without the flats and see if it makes a difference (and also, increase the number of bias frames).

Yeah you will quickly see if it's better with or without, good luck!
