Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and itĀ  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Hello all šŸ™‚Ā 

Well, rather than bothering Mabula with emails, maybe I can share here this problem I face as a beginner....

I am trying to process my first Lights (acquired a month ago, thanks to this great weather...). I work with CCD AP 5, MaximDL, Focusmax and TheSkyX Pro in remote. The camera is an ATIK 4000 M.Ā 

I used the routines of CCD AP to make darks, bias and sky flats. It turns out that the Lights and FLATS are 2042 x 2042 pixels wide, but the BIAS and DARKS are only 752 x 580 , hence the following message from APP when trying to Calibrate :

"Bias Calibration is not possible due to different frame dimensions" (cf. pic linked).

I could not find a setting in the CCD AP option tabs for the size of the calibration images, so I guess this should not matter. Do I miss a step in the calibration process ? Or is it truly a problem at images acquisition ?

I can't see your topic on the CCD Autopilot forum, because I don't have a login unfortunately. Did you get an answer there?

I can only assume this might has to do with binning somehow of the sensor of your CCD camera, or some settings in the capture software.

To be able to do proper calibration, the calibration frames need to be the same size as the lights, because calibration is something that works on pixel scale to do it properly.

If there was binning, like 2x2 I would expect the frames to show the 2x factor. So for the 2048x2048 frames, the calirbation frames would be 1024x1024 for instance.

The fact that the frames are 752 x 580 really puzzles me, because the aspect ratio of the frame is different as well.

I would be curious to know the asnwers on the CCD autopilot forum.

Hello šŸ™‚ Well the solution came by the previous owner of the camera who used CCD AP5 too and told me that the sole solution he could think of was that the dark had been obtained via the guider camera (ie Lodestar X2) and he was right šŸ™‚ the image size was the exact size of the Lodestar šŸ™‚Ā

The question for me was then to understand how such thingĀ  happened and I finally found out that in MaximDL, the "guiding camera" box option was checked to "1" (and not to "2") which means that, for maximDL, the guiding camera was the ATIK 4000 and -I guess - the main camera was by default the Lodestar. Obviously this information was sent to CCD AP šŸ™‚
