Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.
Hi Mabula, a question. How does Bayer drizzle integration?
Hi Minusman,
Bayer Drizzle will integrate only the bayer data of camera's that have a bayer CFA on the sensor, like DSLR camera's. So the data won't be debayered before integration.
A suggested setting to use would be to
- set bayer drizzle for integration mode
- keep integration scale at 1.0
- set drizzle drops at 2.0 and
- drizzle kernel, try tophat.
The results from this would and should be similar to normal integration (no drizzle) with AAD debayer.
Then if you lower the drizzle drops value, if the data permits, the integration/stack will become sharper but noisier.
Applying drizzle is always a choice between improved resolution versus an increasing amount of noise.
Let me know, if you can create a nice bayer drizzle result 😉
Cheers,
Mabula
Must I have to adjust in Raw / Fits no interpolation?
Hi minusman,
No, you can keep the 0) RAW/FITS settings for debayer on the default AAD debayer.
For star analysis and registration of the light frames, APP will dynamically debayer your frames to get good star lokations and optimal registration. Without debayering this is not possible.
Then, when the light frames are loaded at the beginning of the integration task, APP will NOT debayer your light frames, so only the bayer CFA pixels will be loaded into the integration 😉
So, it's setup automatically for you. You only need to select the Bayer Drizzle integration mode.
Let me know if it works 😉
Mabula
p.s. I have made a sticky of this 😉
😉 you're welcome minusman !
Hi Mabula- you mention the above advice is for DSLRs - does it also apply to a OSC like my ASI071MC Pro?
I get 2 files afterwards - the 'normal' integrated one as well as a WeightMap. I assume that I continue processing the integrated one in either 9) Tools or an external program like PS - correct? But what do I do with the WeightMap file?
I have seen your advice in other posts about trying different settings for droplet size, etc. to determine my own preferences. I will do so, but would like to know if there are any processing steps I should take before comparing them?
Rgds and thanks for a great processing program!
