Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Curious, I've got a 64GB really fast USB3 flash drive, a 2 TB passport drive, and the 1 TB ssd drive on the laptop w/16GB. Would it slow things down if I used the 64GB USB3 flash drive as the working directory? It would just be easier to do housekeeping.

Hi Greg (@gregwrca),

Yes, you can do this but be aware that the temporary integration data is saved on the location of your working directory. So it's best to use the fastest drive that you have with the most free space for this. A 64GB drive will only be able to do integrations that are smaller than 64GB 😉

Cheers,

Hello,

I work on a MAC with all my files on a remote hard drive.  I'm setting the working directory and I do not see my remote drives available to select.    Can I work on the remote hard drive, and where do I find it?

Hi @gaprunella,

Yes you can work on a remote drive, I have done it myself on MacOS.

On Unix/Linux/MacOS an external drive is usually mapped to a certain folder on your MacOS file system. You need to check which folder that is.

It could be something like

/media/...

/mount/...

It depends on the Unix/Linux/MacOS version where it actually is. So if you locate it, it should be no problem.

Let me know if this helps 😉

Kind regards,

Mabula

I too have this problem sometimes.  In "Finder" the network/remote drive is visible.  In APP, it is not.

The problem seems worse when the drive is connected after APP starts.  But connecting the drive before loading APP does not guarantee it will be seen by APP.

Hi @cheetah @gaprunella,

To follow-up on this matter: this has to do with how MacOS (or Linux) handles the mounting of external drives.

The finder will show the external drive, but it will only be really mounted it seems when the drive is used. Once mounted, APP can use and find the drive using the mount point.

The file chooser in APP needs to be adjusted to better handle this.

But the current workaround should be that you access the external drive with Finder first and then you can use it with APP. I have been doing this without problems.

Please let me know if this helps 😉

A note on using an external drive as your work directory (on the Mac at least):

If you disconnect it while APP is not doing a computation, APP notices and automatically puts your work directory back to the default HOWEVER, it keeps everything in memory, so if you just put the work directory back to the external drive you can continue your work as if nothing had happened.

This is fantastic as it allows me to close down my laptop, disconnect and pack things up, get home and reconnect everything, and basically have APP open days on end without ever having to quit and restart.

(Kudos to the APP Team for this!)
