Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.

It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it  will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...

Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual

We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.

Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

APP does not find stars in my images

Hi,

I wanted to give APP a try, and used it on the data from last weekend:  http://www.salzgeber.at/astrophotography/deepsky/spring-is-here-galaxies-and-clusters/

My flats turned out unusable due to uneven lighting and moving dust, therefore I ended up with just lights and darks.

APP has a problem with finding stars in my images, it says I should lower the kappa value, but it is already at 3! The Regim Software by Andreas Roerig registered the images without any problem.

Exposures were 120s at f/8, ISO1600 with a Nikon D750

with best regards,

Philipp

Hi @astrograph,

Thank you for mentioning this and welcome to the forum 😉

That's odd to say the least. Does APP detect zero stars? Can you post a console output after having done star analysis on a couple of frames?

You can also send me 1 or 2 frames and I will have a look myself what's happening.

Have you tried turning down the gamma slider and unchecking minimum amount of stars during analysis?

Hello,

apparently the issue was caused by something wrong with the bad pixel map, in the end I deleted all the calibration frames, startet from scratch without a BPM and then it worked.

During unsuccessful attempts at analysing stars I also had some Java Out Of Memory problems, so I increased the RAM setting to 4GB.

I uploaded two RAW frames and the calibration frames to

Dropbox Logo Dropbox File (Private or Invalid)

if you want to have a look...

thanks,

Philipp

BTW: today I created flat frames, which are missing some of the moving dust, but get rid of the vignetting...
