Mar 28 2026 APP 2.0.0-beta40 will be released in 7 days.
It did take a long time to have the work finished on this and it will have a major performance boost of 30-50% over 2.0.0-beta39 from calibration to integration. We extensively optimized many critical parts of APP. All has been tested to guarantee correct optimizations. Drizzle and image resampling is much faster for instance, those modules have been completely rewritten. Much less memory usage. LNC 2.0 will be released which works much better and faster than LNC in it's current state. And more, all will be added to the release notes in the coming weeks...
Update on the 2.0.0 release & the full manual
We are getting close to the 2.0.0 stable release and the full manual. The manual will soon become available on the website and also in PDF format. Both versions will be identical and once released, will start to follow the APP release cycle and thus will stay up-to-date to the latest APP version.
Once 2.0.0 is released, the price for APP will increase. Owner's license holders will not need to pay an upgrade fee to use 2.0.0, neither do Renter's license holders.

Be aware: APP will read all NEF files, but if your camera is not on this list yet, correct interpretation of your data cannot be fully guaranteed .

When will Z9 NEF files be included?
Tried to upload three sample NEF files but was unable to get the log in to work using the link above. Tried "appuser" as both login and password as shown, then my user name and password, my user name and "appuse" with negative results
@roberthgmsn-com Robert, you need to use the word "upload" (without quotes) for both the username and password as is stated right next to the link that you clicked on.
When will Z9 NEF files be included?
APP depends on LibRAW for file format support. It is currently not clear when LibRAW will support this camera.
Hi @roberthgmsn-com,
Apologies, the upload instructions in the first post of this topic were outdated. I have corrected it now.
Can you please upload the raws here:
https://upload.astropixelprocessor.com/
login : upload
password : upload
Support for the Nikon Z9 will be there once Libraw supports it. I see that there is a first beta of libraw with limited support for the camera:
I have added to our issue/todo list to test your camera once libraw releases a stable version with support for the Nikon Z9.

Mabula -
Great! I've believe I've uploaded samples of the three RAW files used by the Z9, 1) Lossless compression, 2) High efficiency (star), and 3) High efficiency.
Thanks - Bob G
I do understand that my D5300 is supported, but I'm wondering how modding the camera affects APP's interpretation of its' NEFs? (and yes, mine is modded)

Are there already Z8 NEF files included?
Are there already Z8 NEF files included?
Hi @frato,
No not yet, LibRaw does not yet support the Nikon Z8 I am afraid. And we depend on LibRaw, like other programs, to process camera raws from brands like Canon and Nikon. But there might be a workaround, please try converting the NEFs from your Z8 to DNG using the latest Adobe DNG converter tool, and load the DNGs into APP. I think that will work 😉

@mabula-admin Ok. Thanks for the tip. I will try it out ;).
APP 2.0.0-beta29 for Intel Mac (14.4.1) did not show NEF as a supported file type. APP 2.0.0-beta26 does show NEF support and is working. Haven't tried 27 or 28.
Hi all,
APP 2.0.0-beta34 will add fully tested support for the following models:1 S2, 1 AW1, D2XS, Z50, D6, Z f, Z8, Z9
Note for Z f , Z fc, Z 8, Z 9 models : HE/HE* formats are not supported, standard/lossless compression only. LibRaw does not yet provide support for the High Efficiency or HE compression methods.
